Update 08APR2014: Star Alliance Awards must have been booked by March 30, 2014. They are no longer available through US. This thread is mostly useful for historic purposes, and discussing issues such as schedule changes/route changes that affect FTers existing *A awards booked before 3/31/2014.
Discussion on using US miles to book oneworld awards is available here.
If you are looking for discussion on US's new partner awards that use various partners not in oneworld (many of whom are former *A partners), see the devoted thread on using US miles to book NON-oneworld partners here.

Update 07JAN14: American Airlines award tickets bookable online on usairways.com or through reservation.

Have you considered reaching 125k to get US Airways Club membership for free (via Special Dividends)? This is my plan for this year M&M is not worth the effort (IMHO)...

Has anyone had any luck booking an Air Japan (NH/All Nippon subsidiary)? They are one of the surprisingly limited flights between HKG-NRT.
The US agent said they could not see air japan inventory so therefore they could not book it?
Is this a matter of hang up/call back or they just can't? Long selling it would help?
Thanks!

The Agent should be looking for NH inventory, as "Air Japan Inventory" does not actually exist:

I would love to be wrong though, but these general remarks dont really help. ANA of course shows the available.

NH Availibility
I spoke with a almost (very) helpful agent. She found the flights in the schedule under the NH flight number, went as far to reach out to a RM department but in the end because its not All Nippon, but a seperate airline owned and flagged by NH she said she could not book us on the flight....
And no one has had any success with this.
Elsewhere online it suggested a "long form" booking worked? Anyone have insight into this and how it could differ?

I know a lot of you were annoyed by the number of posts about the LH inventory but I am thankful to have read them. It will help me in my next award.
Anyway...
So Qatar Air is not part of *A but can you get these flights as a United codeshare for awards?

Any idea why US Airways can't book some flights that are available through the UA search engine? I tried getting three different representatives to book TG954 BKK-OSL or TG960 BKK-ARN on 21May, but they weren't able to pull it up each time.

Award Tickets can not be booked as codeshare flight number.
But you theoretically could redeem US Dividend Miles for a QR ticket. Unfortunately, the award chart currently shows the following remark:
B) Award redemption on Qatar Airways and Royal Jordanian is temporarily not available
So at the moment a no go with US miles... ;(
Anybody knows the reason why there's a restriction on QR and RJ redemption?

Both flights are leaving around 1am. Let the agents check the day before or after, to find your desired flight...

Awards on NH-marketed flights would be same-airline (and not partner) awards for ANA, so the ANA Tool would not the best source of info for this.

Why would she do that (instead of simply booking those flights)?
And what does the US RM Department have to do with NH flights?
So she did not actually even try to book the flight? She just though that she could not?
