[QUOTEWhy do they insist on hosing the loyal...I have tickets I've purchased in the last couple months for Thanksgiving, Christmas and January...It SHOULDN'T matter when the tickets are purchased...just as long as the flights take place during that time frame of the bonus offer. [/QUOTE]

Yeah, I'm really annoyed about that too as I bought tickets less than a week ago online that do not qualify. I did call up and ask but was told no. Has anyone had luck getting CS to make this offer retroactive? I know it states that it is only for new tickets but I've had luck in the past getting them to make a promo retroactive......

I've read the blurb several times, and I can't decide which is the correct interpretation.
I'm almost certain it is elite miles only - "toward your Preferred status." and "bonus miles toward Preferred Status". If it were real miles, it would be a no brainer.

Only 7? I think I was at 9x for about 3 weeks with overlaping offers.

I'm 100% in agreement. US is rewarding the customers whose loyalty has been called into question (no offense to those of you reading this post who fall into this category), and don't offer the same bennies to the loyal customers who have continued to support this airline through the past few turbulent months.

Yes, this is a great promo for new bookings, and I appreciate the effort, but PLEASE, Barry -- reward good behavior as equally as bad behavior, and make it retroactive.

One interesting tid bit. I had signed up for an envoy bonus some time ago and this in fact had caused me not to get this email. I had thought I might use the envoy bonus but have not been able to do so.

Moral of the story..... Their systems are in fact getting better and they can in fact see who has signed up for which bonus automatically. I guess this means the days of GOM are really over. It also means you should only sign up for those bonuses you know you are going to use.

And special thanks to the individual who saw my post here and did some checking behind the scenes. We really do want you guys to succeed and we are behind you all the way. This is truly a good promotion that was needed to fire up the troops. You guys did a nice job on this one.

While I am not a big fan of USAirways miles, I am a big fan of using the shorter security line at USAirways. This year I made United Premier on my United flights and about 10k short of Silver Preferred on my USAirways metal flights. I've been puzzling whether it's worth it to try to get this 10k, but with this new promotion, 3 quick trips would do the trick (a total of 9k bonus preferred miles, along with at least 3k on the actual trips themselves).

I'm thinking of riding up to PHL and doing a PHL-BDL turnaround twice in a weekend, with a drive down to the casinos to hang out with a buddy. $78 bucks R/T a pop. The only fly in my ointment is that I'll be near DC that weekend, and while Philly is a reasonable drive, would rather just fly out of IAD or DCA on a cheapie fare somewhere and keep myself entertained.

Any thoughts/suggestions on cheap fares out of the Wash area for a weekend turnaround? Dream Maps actually shows BDL from WAS for the $78 R/T but that fare has been pulled and is now $122 -- not much more, so I might just fly straight from WAS.. still doing the cost/bennie analysis

Jusr to re-confirm...
According to DM service center, this promo is not in any way retroactive. If the tix have been purchased there is no way to apply promo to that reservation. This includes reservations prior to departure. Who knows what the computer will accept or not though.

I also agree that it would be nice if this applied to loyal flyers that have already purchased tickets (sometimes several reservations), but I can understand the purpose of this promo is strictly to encourage new cash flow during desperate times. This will encourage flyers to purchase new tix. For those of us that already have reservations, it's not like we will refrain from making new ones because we feel dissed (for the most part).

Maybe we could kindly petition them to reconsider though? We are loyal sources of revenue when they need us most.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To answer a previous question I posted on this thread (post #38) about whether this promo might clash/ cancel out a challenge promo: the answer is no. According to DMSC the challenge promos can work simultaneously with other codes.

Can't a CP actually who is over 100,000 for the year get 40,000 preferrred out of this for 2005?

1) 20,000 in 2004
2) 20,000 carry over credited to 2005
3) 20,000 for 2005

Unfortunatly I probably will not benefit from this. I must buy from the corporate site and I have vouchers to use for personal flights. If the future was more certain, I would use $$ now and the vouchers later.

I think this is a great promo. I'm not going to chase the 20k this year, but will feel better about taking some discretionary flights earlier if my schedule allows. I don't think they need to grandfather, exempt or otherwise break the rules...the promo is great the way it is now.

I just spoke with the CP desk and was told only 20K total, not 40K (with rolover). The rep I spoke with said that you would only get 20 TOTAL -- those were the exact words. I know call again and ask someone else, but has anyone else asked the CP desk and gotten a different answer?

It seems very ambiguous...
... and it's the whole game to me.

If they give redeemable miles that count toward status as well, it's a go like hell. ^
If it's only status in play, no way.

Even if it's only status, I still might give it a shot. Could probably make GP again good thru 02/07 by the middle of next year with a couple of extra transcons.

And if US goes away before then, the miles are of no more use than the status is. (In actual fact the status might be more use for getting a match with another airline.)

I know that there are other reasons for flights being all booked up, but any short same-day weekend jaunts from BOS are pretty much booked up in the roach fare category. BOS-PHL is often pretty heavily booked, but I thought a SAT or SUN fare would work out.

Having to take the car to PVD and taking a whole weekend day to fly around might just garner the wife's ire.

M

p.s. I am also not happy about not being able to use corporate booked travel as I do have a choice among carriers and sometimes do have to force the system to take US flights.
