Confirmed seat not confirmed?

I used the US20 miles upgrade to get two seats (2A 2C) confirmed in F a while back. I got the paper receipts mailed to me with the F seats confirmed.

About a week before the flight, I go to virtuallythere to double check and noticed that instead of 2C I got moved to 3D.

I called and confirmed that my new seat was indeed 3D. There were still other seats available in 1 and 3.

They couldn't explain how that happened.

Anyone here have a guess?

I thought it could have been because an air marshall but if the guy in 2C were an air marshall, he did a really good job blending in. Even if he were, wouldn't it make sense to take an open seat instead of bouncing someone?

There could have been an equipment change, maybe once, maybe twice, especially if you booked it far in advance. If the equipment type was the same--the seats could have just been scrambled. If it was a different type of aircraft like from a 319 to a 320, that could explain it as well

My experience with Sky Marshall generated seat disruptions is that it happens just prior to flight time. I don't think they work that far out. One thing I have noticed about "Virtually There" is that sometimes after a record has been changed due to an upgrade, the seat doesn't show up, but if you call res, they see it in the company system. I find involuntary seat changes, especially in First Class, to be an unusual event on USAirways. Presumably, anyone with an internal (but not travel agents) Sabre terminal can do it. Maybe a large party wanted to sit together, and had a friend at the airline. Sounds like something a district sales manager might have done for marketing reasons. Several years ago, I knew the city manager at a good sized station, and he often did things like that for me and others. Those guys are fearless.

HeretoThere

Just completed lengthy call received from US Consumer Affairs in Winston-Salem about same topic in response to my inquiry.

Wife & I cleared US1 upgrade 7 days out & were assigned 2D & 2F - arrived at RSW day of departure to receive 1A & 2F - no explanation - we luckily changed rows/seats.
I also had same issue about 4 days later LAS/PHL - had 3C assigned in advance - ended up in 1C at check-in - no Sky Marshall on either flight!

Consumer Affairs is investigating my complaint.

This has been happening to me a good amount lately and I don't know why. I've been calling before the 7 day window and requesting an isle, only to notice that, at online check in, my seat has been unassigned. Much of the time I'm forced to sit at a window because as many of you know, the preference seems to be the isle seat.

The only thing that I can think of is that my corporate travel agency had window in my profile and that could've done something during the automated upgrade process.
