Better Air Upstairs on a 747

On my recent flight from SIN-SFO in an upstairs seat on a 747, I sat next to someone in Aerospace Logistics (ie airplane maintenance).

A very interesting factoid is that the upper deck of the 747 has its own air system, and passengers upstairs do not breathe air recirculated from the lower deck. Thus you are only sharing air with 20+ people instead of hundreds. If there is a fire or smoke downstairs, you are not supposed to get this in your upper deck air.

Another reason to sit upstairs on a 747.

the upper deck *does* have it's own air system and it's pretty much a stronger mix of fresh air (thank god). On longhauls, I always sit up there to avoid the stinch from Roach class.. i mean Economy...
