UA 1 LAX-HKG Returning on 27 July?

Just heard this rumor from UA. They say that if it happens, it will be a 777. Anyone hear similar?

I will be THRILLED if that happens! The schedule was perfect for me, and I got a few more miles.

But I'd rather have the 744...

Can a UA 777 do this range wise. I know that the 777 can, but i did not think UA had any with these range capability (yet).

You have to ask? I think we already know the answer

Hmm... for now, sounds just like another rumor-- remember the one a few months back that there'd be ORD-MXP on a 777 starting in November? Nothing came of that, as yet.

actually according to the star alliance timetable, UA will add a second direct flight via NRT using 744's on that flight.

There have always been two UA flights to HKG (one from NRT & one from SFO). UA is just changing the flight numbers around this summer so UA 897 will be LAX-HKG (1 stop in NRT) instead of LAX-SIN. Nothing has changed in terms of frequencies.

Maybe they are trying to create the 'illusion' that they have brought back the LAX-HKG flight?

UA continues to fly ORD-HKG, UA 895 as well. So there remains at least three flights to HKG from the U.S.

Seems to me July 27 is a little too soon for any major schedule changes like this - ie: they will have already well loaded the July schedule into Apollo....

Yes, looks like NRT-SIN (formerly UA 897) will be renumbered UA 881 on 30JUN and NRT-HKG (formely UA 827) will now be UA 897.

This comes as UA 881 NRT-SEL is renumbered UA 819, which is also a continuation of the new third-daily SFO-NRT.
