UA adapters for laptops in E+
Two questions: 1. Do all/any of UA's international planes have places to plug in notebook adapters in Economy Plus? I need to by an adapter before a trip to Singapore in January for inflight power and want to make sure I'll be able to use it before I make the purchase. Question 2: I remember seeing an adapter offered in UA's duty free magazine, are they any good and what's the cost? Thanks.

No E+ seats are equipped with laptop power unfortunately.

I was hoping this was not going to be the case. I'll need to find a angel with a SWU, but have secured seats in row 35 for leg room.

According the the UAL website laptop power is only available in F/C.

Here's the site that sells all the accessories.

The Targus Universal adapter is preferable to the Xtend model sold by igounited because you just change the tip to select the correct voltage/polarity/geometry for your specific device. Widely available online for about $80. E.g.,

However, even in C or F, the Empower ports are often blanked off on 777s.
Edited to fix link.

I just flew SFO to FRA and back,
the power was covered up in Business on the outbound, and uncovered on the return. But, it was TURNED OFF!! The purser said they were doing upgrades.
I have not seen ever, power in E+ anywhere. I did just buy the xtend adaptor from igounited, and called them to get the 69.00 price that was quoted in the Hemispheres magazine. They had it listed for 99,00 but gave me the 69.00 price anyways. I have not been able to use it ONCE on flights since September between IAD_FRA, SFO_FRA or dometstic. I still carry two batteries for my laptop.

I prefer my APC Travel Adapter which works with all my devices (DVD, PC, etc), is totally universal, and is cheaper than any other offerings I can find. Also works from a cigarette lighter.

If you're an economy traveller looking for in-seat power, I think your best bet is probably AA. From what I can tell, they've rolled out in-seat power across most of their fleet, including selected seats in economy as indicated on their seat maps.

To echo MatthewClement, AA really does have a competitive advantage with their in-seat power even in coach. I flew LGA-MIA on an older MD80 a few weeks ago, and even back in row 24 there were two power ports shared among three seats on my side of the aisle.
UA's power ports are sporadic at best, with most 777s I've been on being inoperative and only the 744s and 763s being reliable-- and then only in C/F. AA's commitment to its entire fleet in all classes of service is something UA ought to consider.

It's really a reflection on the larger UA vs. AA strategy.
AA does MRTC, UA does E+. AA's program costs more to implement but its benefits are spread to all coach flyers. UA's program only benefits elites and full fare customers.
AA does power in coach, UA only puts it into First/Business. Same business rationale as above.
