UA Twitter Bonus

Register and receive a mystery bonus when UA Twitter followers reach 10,000: http://twitter.com/UnitedAirlines/statuses/1809061605

Edited to add:
New promotion at http://www.united.com/page/article/1...vs_keyword=50K for when Twitter followers reach 50k. Discussion on this promotion begins at post #99.

Coolio. It looks like one does not actually need to register at Twitter to receive this bonus when it happens. I kind of would rather not get into the whole Twitter thing right now myself.

I don't think it's targeted, just a nice surprise for those of us who use twitter. I signed up for it too, we'll see what happens.

I signed up everyone in my family. Who knows, maybe it's a $ off voucher or 500 bonus miles...

On this page: http://twitter.com/UnitedAirlines there is a count of how many followers UA has. At the time I posted the link, there were 4,001.

Me too.

Even 100 miles would be appreciated.

Once again, it looks like UA looked at the competition and realized they needed to catch up.

AA just announced they reached 10,000 Facebook fans and gave everyone discount codes.

I wonder if this would be a good (and free) way for those who have been inactive with UA to keep their miles from expiring...

Let's say the Twitter bonus is 100 MP miles. Once these are added to the member's account there's activity, which means that all miles in the account won't expire for another 18 months...

I've signed up for the promo and follow on Twitter, and will definitely take the bonus. However, it seems to me this promo may be poorly thought out. There's no place to add your Twitter name so they know you're actually following them. Furthermore, the conditions don't mention anything about actually having to follow UnitedAirlines on Twitter.

I'm all for this kind of promotion, but without tying it back to the actual point - to get more followers on Twitter - it doesn't seem to make much sense. My guess is that bonus will go to Twitter followers, yes, but also to FT'ers who don't use Twitter.
