Stranded UAMs

I booked two award tickets for my friend's kids to go visit their grandmother in CT. When they were checking in tonight for their HNL to LAX flight, they were told that the second flight (7 a.m. LAX to JFK) flight had been cancelled. The next available flight is at 1 p.m.. This means that the original layover time for the kids (2 hours) has now been increased to 8 hours. Luckily, my friend's great aunt is going to meet the kids on their LAX layover. Otherwise, the long layover would have been unacceptable and the kids would not been jetting off to grandmas.

I am quite upset with UA. It was noted in the record that the passengers were unaccompanied minors. I am a 1K and my contact info is readily available. UA could have called me to inform me of the cancellation so arrangements could be made for the kids. Let this be a warning to anyone sending UAMs on trips in the near future.

Knowing my friend, Rudi, he never stays unaccompanied for long. He is a very social person and meets people all over the place.
