Nested/end-on-end question

I have the follwing booked:

EWR-ORD-HNL-ORDx-EWR (where x indicates a connection)

In other words, there is a stopover in ORD on the outbound and a stopover in HNL where we're going for vacation.

Can I legally buy another ticket ORD-DEN-ORD during my first stopover in ORD so that my itinerary looks like this? :

EWR-ORD-DEN-ORD-HNL-ORDx-EWR

Many thanks - I don't know if this would be considered illegal or not. I think it's end-on-end ticketing, which is OK, but just wanted to make sure. Thanks.

From UA's contract of carriage:
USE OF COUPONS FROM TWO OR MORE TICKETS ISSUED AT ROUND TRIP FARES FOR THE PURPOSE OF CIRCUMVENTING APPLICABLE TARIFF RULES (SUCH AS ADVANCE PURCHASE/MINIMUM STAY REQUIREMENT) IS NOT PERMITTED. UA AGENTS AND AUTHORIZED TRAVEL AGENTS ARE PROHIBITED FROM ISSUING TICKETS, COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS BACK TO BACK, UNDER SUCH CIRCUMSTANCES WHEN THERE IS OBVIOUS INTENT TO ABUSE AND/OR MISUSE RESTRICTED ROUND TRIP FARES. AGENTS FOUND ISSUING SUCH TICKETS MAY BE LIABLE FOR THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE FARE PAID AND THE FARE FOR TRANSPORTATION USED. UA HAS THE RIGHT TO DENY TRANSPORTATION TO PASSENGERS FOUND UTILIZING TICKETS IN THIS MANNER UNLESS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE FARE PAID AND THE FARE FOR TRANSPORTATION USED IS COLLECTED.
Them's the rules. Whether what you propose complies with those rules is a question you'll have to answer.

Given that your nested itinerary is not going back to your original city, and you intend on traveling all legs of your itinerary, I'd guess you're okay. But I am not a lawyer...

Its definately not illegal. Might be against the rules. However as long as you fly all the legs, and are not violating any mininum stay requirements; I dont think anyone will care.

I once did PHX-ORD-PHX
with inside it
PHX- JFK - LGA-PHX
and
JFK-SFO-ANC-ORD-JFK
Inside that one.

Was a pain remembering what segment came when , but I received full credit for all the flights.

What you're asking to do is end-on-end ticketing. Generally this is perfectly fine. Check your fare rules about end-on-end ticketing, there's usually a note about "END-ON-END PERMITTED."

So long as you don't do any throw-away or back-to-back, you should be ok.

Yes, that's what I'm thinking. It's end-on-end ticketing, with is explicity permitted by the fare rules.

It is NOT nested ticketing (e.g. attempting to circumvent Saturday night stay restrictions), nor is it using coupons out of order.

Again, I believe this is end-on-end ticketing, which is allowed. It is not back-to-back-ticketing, which is disallowed.
