I used to book through the Springs to Denver all the time on AA because it was actually cheaper to do that than take a direct flight to the springs.
I always got off and never had any issues, but that was *years* ago and I bet they'd catch it now. I did it both ways, but a return only jump might be safer. |

the cost of the ticket is lower if you fly denver/vegas/denver with a plane change to colorado springs in denver What happens if you get off in denver on the return and don't board the leg to colorado springs? Dash |

do it
I do this often, strangly, in the bay area it is often 100's$ cheaper to book THROUGH SFO on the return, to a city like carmel, modesto, etc. I understand why, but of course we just get off in SFO. No bags checked

Okay to skip segment?
I hope some experienced traveler can help me on this one. I'm going IAD-CDG-MUC, then return MUC-FRA-IAD. MUC is my final destination. If I skip the segment CDG-MUC(LH flight code-shared with UA), will they cancel the rest of the trip? The ticket is on S fare.
If I cannot skip the segment, then I have to fly to MUC, then take an award flight back to CDG. I would like to avoid this if possible. Thanks for any help. |
Unfortunately, you will have to take the flight, or the rest of your ticket will be cancelled. The only time that skipping a segment works is if it is the last segment of a trip. :)
|
Do not do it: it will not work
|
And don't bother calling UA to ask for permission to skip that segment. That won't work eather.
|
See about pricing an open jaw: IAD-CDG; MUC-IAD.
|
Try a low cost carrier to get you back....
germanwings, air berlin or easy jet.. should be able to do it for less than 50 Euros each way, I would think... I agree though.. DO NOT skip the segment... |
You might also check into booking a RT on LH MUC-CDG-MUC and then throwing awaythe second half of THAT ticket. LH has had some very inexpensive intereuropean fares of late, but only for RTs.

Any updated experiences on this?
Last year I had a SNA-LAX-ORD trip. I ended up going to PSP, and buying a one-way PSP-LAX. Once I got to LAX, I told the agent that I was going to miss the SNA segment, so I just came to LAX instead. She just cancelled out the SNA-LAX and called it a day. |

She just cancelled out the SNA-LAX and called it a day. He said that as long as you did not check in (on-line or in person) for the first segment, and it is a short hop (SBA-LAX, OXR-LAX, SNA-LAX, SAN-LAX), that if you just show up at LAX and check-in at LAX for your ex-LAX segment that it is not a problem. He said that if you are checked in for the first flight you are screwed because then the GA for the first segment will cause your entire itin to be invalidated and that there would be nothing they could do at that point. He indicated that you couldn't skip longer segments like DEN-LAX or PHX-LAX. |
