Comped PremEx?
My husband received PremEx as a comp through his company's agency, Carlson Travel, last year. Does anyone know if UAL will comp two years in a row? Different company and agency this year. Last year he had about 42K and this year is at 39.999K. If necessary, he will fly from SFO to LHR but it is a nuisance, not to mention an expense.

According to the "late" nathan detroit, the answer is "Normally No".
Maybe take a page from essxjay, and instead of LHR try a weekend in Munich (MUC)? Well worth it.

My understanding is also no comp two years in a row. I've seen where you earned the level and just missed the next year they will comp but not after the second miss.
Being so close mileage wise to PE I would find some way to get to 50K prior to year end. It's well worth the effort.

When UA comps someone to PremEx, the airline makes it very clear the following year's status must be earned.
It paid off for me as well as for United. Last year I was 2K miles shy of the requirement and UA comped me to PremEx. This year I will fly around 55K miles so will have 'earned' the next year's qualification.
I second those who think it is worthwhile to qualify. VERY!

Oh, absolutely worth it to make PE - Premier is NOTHING! We calculated the goodies (inc being able to actually USE the upgrades!) and concluded that you could justify a fair amount of expense to get the PE level. Thanks for all the advice - now the plan to pick up 10K...My husband wants me to accompany him to London this time and see "Whistling Down the Wind." I am very negative about that much flying just to see a play! All that jet lag...ACK!

Definitely worth flying 10,000 miles for PremEx, even at the cost (an e-fare to LHR would work, for <$500). Assuming he'll fly ~50,000 miles next year, just think of it as "buying" 5368 x 2 x 1.25 premier bonus = 13,420 miles, plus 37,500 additional miles next year (100% PremEx bonus vs. 25% Premier) plusany other PremEx goodies (especially easier upgrades and waitlists).

should be a "x2 PE bonus" (instead of "x 1.25 premier bonus").

That's right - I forgot he was already PremEx this year. That makes the total almost 60,000 miles. A bargain at twice the price!

I got my business partner comped to Premex in '98. He only flew 43,000 miles but UA renewed him as a Premex. This year he made the grade with 53,000 miles, so he'll be an official 'real' Premex in 2000.

they (UA) are likely to renew for a second year, if the first year wasn't twelve months, but the pro-rata-calculation would make 50'000 status miles/year.

Have Einar check into the following flights which I'm taking to make 1K, it's cheap with 13k miles.
UA flt# 230 11 Dec 8:20a.m - SJC to IAD
UA flt# 962 11 Dec 5:35p.m - IAD to MUC
Breakfast in Munich is on me!
UA flt# 963 12 Dec 11:55a.m - MUC to IAD
UA flt# 231 12 Dec 5:35p.m - IAD to SJC
There's still time and when I checked last the airfare was still cheap.
Cheers Scott

Just an FYI.. I called MP (Premier Exec desk) to ask about the comped status. Since two of my friends are 100,000+ flyers on other airlines, United said they would comp what ever is equivelant on this years mileage/status. So they even comp 1K... amazing.....

Same as Rudi...never heard of United comping 1K to anyone. So, just picked up the phone and called the MP Service Center saying I knew a AA 200K flyer and was told Premier Executive is the highest they will comp for one year (upon proof of similar or better status at a competing airline). Asked to talk to a Supervisor just to make sure and she confirmed this. She said that 1K is the only level that absoulutly has to be earned. She very nicely tried to sell me on the fact that PEs get the same 100% bonus miles as 1Ks, but when I mentioned the other perks that they would be missing out on, she said she was sorry but PE is the highest they will do, period.
LAX 1K, maybe you got a rookie agent who misunderstood or gave you some bum info. I'd call back and be specific on your request rather than just accepting that they will "match."
