GS IM Changes?

The GS line told me today that they just received a 'bunch of new rules' RE calling IM for GS members. The person would not elaborate.

Anyone know anything about this?

No, but I am going to purchase a ticket tonight with no upgrade availability and wil need them to call IM. Thank goodness for the 24-hour refund rule if things go south.

She said something about not being able to call unless flight is w/i 24 hours. Frankly, ability to call IM is one of the only truely useful features of GS.

Just checked. No changes, as far as the agent I spoke to was aware.

There is only one difference I have noticed on this is in recent weeks:
In the last 1-2 months, I have had to ask them to send the "issue" over to the IM desk vs in the past, the GS desk proactively volunteered to send it over to the IM desk to open up some space.

I remember when as a Premier Exec, I could ask reservations to contact Inventory Management. Then it was restricted to 1K, which I had become.

Recently when I have asked, agents usually say, "United never has/ never will/ never would do that."

Perhaps the right solution here is to have seperate availability of upgrades for GS (and possibly 1Ks) like there is with saver awards. If agents have to continually call IM for exceptions, it seems to suggest that upgrade availablity isn't correctly set up in the first place.

What do you all think?

That actually would be nifty, especially if there was some way to look up that bucket just like the NY bucket that way one could see if the upgrade was available before booking. Of course I'd like this to flow down to 1Ks as well

The only difference I have noticed lately is that IM is not responding to my requests that are sent their way. The agent sees that IM hasn't responded, and then the agent sends the request to IM again. Frustrating.

After trying IM requests perhaps 8 times in my 6-month GS tenure - my first requests actually cleared on Monday. For PS lunch flights eastbound then westbound next week!

I've been told that before, the last time being some 6-8 months ago, so not sure why an agent would call it "new", much less a "rule" since most agents don't abide by it.

I'd be for that as long as it was GS only (no 1K)

Well, assuming that IM can decided to accommodate an upgrade request from a GS member even though there may already be others on the waitlist with confirmed instruments, they basically have this special GS "inventory" already. It may be that IM creates it on the spot when looking at a GS request (and not something which is maintained like other inventories), but in any event it is certainly not something which should be transparent to vast numbers of MP members like NY inventory is.

As I stated earlier, I just (as opposed to last night) purchased a p.s. flight for Friday at ORD. After said transaction, I called GS to see if they would contact IM for the upgrade. The agent said that she would send it over and hopefuly have an answer by tomorrow. So no change there.
