UA Codeshare Upgrades
UA upgrade, economy B, is 10,000 miles per leg & M&H fares, are 20,000 miles per segment, to and from Europe. It apears that this only applies to UA 900 series flights, meaning UA equipment. Codeshares, 3000 series, with LH do not seem to qualify. When I have asked, I get various answers from PreEx Int'l but the gist seems to be that the
LH flights are only upgradeable by LH and the miles requirement is more than UA flights. SAS flights are not upgradeable by or thru UA.
Apparently the much touted Star Alliance relationships do not extend this far. Can anyone shed light on this dark corner?

At the present time, there appears to be absolutely no upgrade opportunities on ANYONE other than LH, and even with them you can't necessarily confirm it at booking time AND they are also farebase restricted (not consistent with the UA fare base letters, but the res agents at UA know). If you have any desire to upgrade with LH at all, make sure you have booked a spendy enough fare

upgrading on flights where [*]LH is the carrier[*]LH is the flight-number[*]UA Mileage plus is your ff-account
You can officially upgrade on all paid fares, exept "W" fare (if you would have and use a LH miles&more-account you could even upgrade "W"-fares). Transatlantic flights "cost" the same UA-mileage amount as with UA as carrier (20'000 miles one-way for upgrade, it would cost 25'000 miles on a LH-miles&more account).
ONLY your UA-people can handle your upgrade-request on LH: they can clear the upgrade situation, deliver you your paper-upgrade-voucher (you can't do that electronically yet), and make the final upgraded seat reservation. Allow up to 3 weeks to get the paper-voucher outside the US - I don't know how much time it takes if you live in the US.
One more advice: you will, very probably, not been given automatically your status-bonus on that LH-flight (25% Premier, 100% Premex and 1K). Have a look into this problem at http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/Foru...ML/000802.html
