Threshold Bonuses
When they took away the threshold bonuses this year they mentioned something about certificates good for a savings off award redemption. I haven't seen any of these in my Premier kit this year. Does anyone know how that works and how long I have to use them? Thanks.

Yes, I received one. I still like the idea of the threshold bonuses better, but....
The saving certificate I got as a Premier Exec (just got downgraded this year from 1K) was a saving of a certain number of miles (can't remember--varies by your rank) off a First Class award for two people. Since I would rarely redeem for a first class award, I am NOT impressed by it's value. If it was a savings off any award--that would be valuable.

I received with my premierExc kit a cupon worth twenty thousand miles of a international award for two people traviling together on the same itenary. I rarely use mileage for full awards I prefer to purchase qualifing fares and upgrading with miles to the next class of service. The one good feature of the new award program is when you purchase a "B" class fare for international travel instead of having to use 40,000 miles to upgrade to business class only 20,000 miles are now required. I travel almost exclusively internationaly.

What no one seemed to realize when they abolished plateau bonuses was that for those of us who fly more than 100000 miles, there is no longer any incentive to continue to fly United after the 100K level is reached. It used to be that there were additional plateau bonuses after 100000, but no more.
Since I will easily fly 150000 miles this year, I'll do the extra 50000 on American and achieve platinum status. I'll still get all the perks I would if I stayed with UA.

I agree the new awards suck -- 40,20,10k in order of Premier status is no deal over the threshold awards. Although I do most of my travel internationally -- I would have rathered had the miles (unqualified) to do with what I liked. Why don't they add waitlisting for upgrades on international flights? That would be a big loyality boost for me. Phil
