"this flight does not have first class"

OK a little fun here. Standing near the Red carpet line in DEN for a TED flight (both bluetooth in), only one in line. GA comes over, does all the boarding things, picks up mike. " Premier and Premier Exec may board now". I walk up Red Carpet lane. Get a glance (glare) and the comment "this flight does not have first class". For once I had a come back "well does it have 1K?" Another glare but opens gate and lets me in.

He was probably mystified as to why a 1K would choose to fly on a plane with no first class.

Maybe the GA believes that the red carpet lane has a magical tunnel that whisks us away to first class seats, bypassing the line of people backed up into the jetway trying to get their children to stop screaming, talking on their cell phones, etc.

(Hint: No. There is no such magical tunnel.)

This week a LH GA whispered to me 'you will find something very nice behind door number 1'

They do have a magic tunnel

I am surprised how many GAs at DEN do not observe the proper Red Carpet procedure. DEN was one of the earlier stations to get the carpet and some still don't know how to do it right. Your response ("well does it have 1K?") is perfect.

Dunno 'bout that. I can't imagine myself saying something like that. Cut your losses and board w/the rest.

Totally disagree. Use your privileges or they'll disappear!

The red carpet is 50% of the hard product 1K bene on TED, the other 50% E+. It's tough for me which one is more valuable but believe me I use both.

I agree -- as a 1p, the red carpet is one of the things I see as the better perks of 1k (since I don't fly int'l and don't often upgrade).

Right now I only fly international, but not many upgrades, and also see that as a better perk. Like to get on and settle in to my E+ exit row and watch everyone else try to put "square pegs in round holes" with their carry-on.

I would have had a nervous breakdown - crying, lying on the floor, having a fit and screaming "I WANT MY FIRST CLASS ...I WANT IT ....I WANT IT.... "

Really? A couple weeks ago I flew TED from PHX to SFO. They called red carpet boarding. I was standing in the back behind the crowd blocking the gate, expecting at least a few of them to move to board via the red carpet. No one moved, so I had the great pleasure to push right through the crowd going "Excuse me, excuse me -- coming through..." and parade down the red carpet. I was the only 1K on that flight.
