Zero BC Seats between LAX and SYD

I just did a search for one (1) business class saver award seat between LAX and SYD. I searched the United site beginning with October all the way through the end of July.

There was not one single award seat available for any date.

Am I doing something wrong on my search or is United really this bad?

That's a highly sought after route for award tickets. UA does offer them from time to time but they get snapped up so fast.

I understand your frustration; across the board on all airlines, award tickets are getting harder to find and I don't think it's a figment of my imagination.

The weird thing is that EF shows piles of F award space available at least in May. XF=9. But zero business award space.

Even MP shows space in mid-may in F from both SFO and LAX, so if you have the extra miles, consider going in F.

It is not just SYD, LHR is the same. Plain and simple, UA is not releasing seats. MP is becoming more and more worthless. Only thing worse is US

I just grabbed two of the F seats to SYD for my birthday. Thanks for the heads up!

Actually on a similar note, there are NO FCor BC award seats from LAX-JFK on UA for at least 4 months!!! At least according to EF and ANA availability tool

You either book awards very very far out or very very close to departure. This is the accepted Award Travel Dogma...

Tonight I found F availability for plenty of dates in May.

Exactly. Add to the dogma: forget about international C awards (at least on UA), because they are much harder to get than F. The ranking, in order of how much availability, seems to be XY>XF>XC. I've looked for months at transpac flights (SYD and NRT) between "now" and 330 days out, and have yet to see a single C seat become available (perhaps close to departure, but NEVER in advance, IME).

Since someone mentioned PS C and F, they are also hard to come by, but occasional seats are released far in advance for LAX-JFK in C and F. But these tend to be either the 6 am flight or the red-eye.

I tend to find more XF than XC. I'd personally go for XF anyway for only a fraction of miles more.
