E+ on 747

Does anyone know if UA now has individual screens for the inflight entertainment in E+ on their 747? The last time I was on a 747 is quite a while ago (2004 I think) and back then they didn't have it.

Nope, they don't, sorry. Even the newly reconfigured aircraft won't have them, although they won't have the crappy projectors anymore either but a newer screen instead.

E+ on a 744 is dreadful. Avoid it at all cost. In addition to no individual IFE, there are no particularly good E+ seats to be had and the 3-4-3 configuration results in even more undesirable seats than the 2-5-2 of the 777.

No individual screens, tight seat pitch. Not pretty.

The price difference between the 747 morning flight and the 777 early afternoon was about $400. Oh well, I shall fill up my iPod and then suffer in silence.

Another question: Does anybody have any recommendations on what to do in SFO on a 7 hour lay-over? Is it worth traveling to San Francisco? Or anything to do close to the airport?

You'll find answers to this question in the SF Forum.

With that sort of SFO layover, I generally take BART to town, ride a cable car (tourism value; photo ops) to Fisherman's Wharf and have a good meal at Scoma's or No. 9 Fisherman's Wharf. Then reverse the trip, perhaps with a brief shopping/dessert/whatever stop at Ghirardelli Square.

If it's morning, instead of Fisherman's Wharf get off the cable car in front of Buena Vista Cafe and stoke up on Irish coffee and breakfast (outstanding) before the next flight... then back on the cable car, up the hill, transfer to BART, and life back in the hands of UA.
