Very bizarre problem with UAL.com seat change function

Don't be sure you will actually have this seat assignment when you check in.I secured seat assignments for our family of 15- 300 plus days out. I checked every month up until the night prior to departure.On checking in at the airport all the seat assignments had been changed.They had 5 and 6 year olds seated alone- "miles away" from their parents. Same thing on the return. Bassinets ordered and weren't honored. Total chaos for a 13 plus hour flight.

As a 3 yr running 1K, I have only lost my seat once, that due to an equipment change, I think there is exageration in "regulary"./
And just out of curiousity- if it was all fine the night before - why didn't you check in online then?

I actually had this happen to me a few weeks ago. I called customer care (and somehow miraculously got the US call center), and the nice lady told me that I was in fact in the seat I had recently chosen. So .bomb showed me in my old seat, but I was actually in the correct seat I'd chosen.
