Transferring from my Spouse's a/c
Hi
I planned a OZ trip for two of us and UA has increased the required miles by 20k/person.
As it is, I need 15k miles and my wife has 20k more than she needs - if I were to transfer, I need to pay $185!
I have about 10 months before I fly. But I won't earn 15k through purchases.
Is there a work around - we both are flying.
Thanks

No work around, sorry. You would still have to pay the transfer fee, even if it's a spouse.

There is a (sort of) workaround... apply for the Mileage Plus VISA. Any of the offers, even the standard one of only 17,500 miles, will give you enough for your trip. The Signature card is fee-free for the first year so that will be at zero cost to you if you cancel before the next year's annual fee hits (but don't cancel too early or they'll pull your miles! ).
The miles should hit your account a few days after your first statement.

It certainly could take 2 months, but it may be only 1 month... if he gets instant approval, the card should show up within a week, and statements tend to close within about 3 weeks of receiving the card. You're right though, it's not ideal if he's in a real hurry.
