At least when it comes to SFO - I have to disagree. I would say 99% of the time if I have a priority tag on my luggage comes out first. I remember reading somewhere on FT that SFO makes it important to get priority tagged bags out first.

All of the orange "Priority" bags came out first on both flights...or rather, all the first bags had orange tags.
In SFO the guy initially didn't put the orange tag on - I had to ask him to do so. |

I agree, about 98% of time if I have a priority tag, at SFO it comes out as one of the first 10. Except when they sent my luggage(s) to ORD or somewhere else when I was flying IAD-SFO transcon(s).

I just bought an oddly though not displeasingly colored 24" in bag, and I find that the warm-colored priority tag complements my cold-colored bag quite nicely, kind of like a racing stripe on an old sports car

As others have alluded to, the orange tags seem to be working for the first time in a long time. On my last six flights, priority tagged bags have almost exclusively been the first out and on the belt. Kudos to UA!!!!

It made my little girl feel the wow as it was her first class flight.
Looking at the baggage going onto the plane at CLT yesterday, they didn't dump them on the belt any softer lol |
On a recent trip my bag was pulled in ORF when plane had weight restriction. I didn't understand why they would pull a priority bag. Obvious tag doen't mean anything there. :td:
|
They probably pulled it off for VIP treatment...:)

I don't travel UA frequently, but when I have, it has been international travel. I found that my priority-tagged bag actually did come off the belt along with other priority bags. When flying US (domestic and international), I have found that my bags typically come off near last.

Priority luggage means zip these days
In the past year or even 2, in my experience priority luggage seems to mean nothing particularly on international. My (and others) bags just seem to arrive in random order. Also, when did UA stop giving F luggage separate tags - they only get the usual tags that C and all 1P get.
Another big gripe - is bags checked together (eg mine and my husband's) never arrive at the same or similar times - worst case was one came off almost first, the other very last on a recent return SFO-SYD. Final major gripe - oversized luggage (eg sports equipment) always comes off last. |
Depends on the airports (departure and arrival) I think, but this isn't anything new IME.

Priority luggage
Yes, it just depends. Last week coming in from MCO to ORD my luggage was marked priority and they were the first bags out of the chute. You can't get much more priority than that.
|
Sounds like your gripe is that anything that prohibits your own luggage being first is bad.... :D
You really expect baggage handlers to take the time to recognize you and your husband's luggage and ensure it comes out together? WOW.... guess they should delay sending out your luggage until they find his luggage. I know I am glad that oversized luggage comes off last. I am sure it takes more effort to handle those items... and if they came out early, they would take up a lot of space on the carousel. Sounds like the only acceptable solution for you is to do carry on only. |
What are you talking about? Priority Luggage tags do work, last week when i had a tight connection due to weather at LAX, My bag made the connection, but I didn't. I guess the GA didn't feel like waiting another 5 minutes for me. It was annoying waiting 7 hrs for the next flight.
