undersky, welcome to FT!^

Priority luggage tags are one of those hit or miss things. I've gotten them on UA back when I was US silver and was pretty sure I wasn't supposed to. I've also been explicitly denied them as a 1P - so definitely a YMMV situation.

But as most on this board will describe - their actual effect when you do get them is pretty debatable as well - depends on the airport and the day.

knightsthatsayni Nov 15, 2007 11:33 am

Depends on the airport. I have had the bags come off first probably 70% of the time. The orange and blue is such a striking color combo too!

The tags matter a lot more in some places than others. I've had decent success in Germany, Slovenia, and several non-UA hub airports in the US. Not so much at IAD, unfortunately.

The few times that I checked bags domestically last year were actually kind of funny. We started to watch the bags come out to see when the priority tagged bags would show up.
In all 4 cases that we watched..the tags either came out mixed or, in 2 cases, all at the end.:D
I had the feeling that behind the wall some handlers were laughing...or maybe just taking a little more time to go through them.;)

thanks guys...

Thank for your warm welcome.

Priority luggage handling is one of the biggest beneift I care out of any FF programs, because it's often the final bottleneck. Imagine you deplane first, going through foreign custom first, and at the end, you have to watch everyone who deplaned after you getting their luggage before leaving the aiport, while you are still waiting for your luggage...

Since you guys confirms that *Gold does promise me a tag, I will just make sure that they put it on next time. If the agent deny at the check in I will simply decline checking in and ask for a supervisor. If it's an benefit extended to me, I wouldn't take "no" for answer, just as if you wouldn't give up a F seat that you upgrade.

My experience has been pretty good with the tag, granted I was flying through large hubs and/or intl destinations in Asia.

On 10/31, I flew F for the first time ever, ORD-DEN-BUR, and this new and enjoyable experience ended with my priority-tagged bag being the first out from my flight (a completely full 733). :)

So my bag has been first on the carousel 100% of the times it was priority-tagged. YMMV. :p

Sorry, I'm just still overwrought with the excitement of getting to sit in the front after 25 years of flying. :)

Had to check a bag on a TED flight yesterday, IAD-FLL and was amazed to see it come out FIRST. ^ The tag is definitely getting more recognition than it has in the past.

Wait you must be pulling our legs, you mean you've never ever sat in First in 25 years of flying?

Never ever?

And what a lousy plane to be in first on (737). Pray tell us you at least were flying during a meal time.

jan_az Nov 15, 2007 8:01 pm

Well in the last 3 weeks, it has gotten DH a home delivery 3 times in a row.

gkh Nov 15, 2007 8:21 pm

Last 3 flights priority-tagged bags have come out first. Could there be a change a comin'.................

lucky9876coins Nov 15, 2007 8:23 pm

Wow, would be nice if there really were a change! I give credit to Barbara Higgins!:D^

No legs pulled. I only started getting interested in FFPs 3-4 years ago, so the first 21-22 years of activity were lost into the ether. Most bitterly regretted of these uncredited flights were the the three LAX-BKK round trips, for which ~50k miles are gone.

ORD-DEN (UA941) was a 757 at dinner time;
DEN-BUR (UA1221) was a 737 at 'fruit and cheese' time (can anything bigger even land at BUR? even those cause trouble [and even those are troublesome, apparently: think WN1455 :p])

2 weeks on, I'm still writing my TripReport®, of which the self-deprecating 'look at the F-n00b' section may amuse people. :)

Welcome to my world. First on board - First off the flight - First through passport control - LAST to pick up my bags

tim iridium Nov 15, 2007 9:20 pm

My experience with priority tags can be categorized geographically:

Asia - first bags off, consistently

Europe - first bags off, more often than not

US - no difference whatsoever and often towards the end of the bags being offloaded

Congrats on flying first. I hope you remember this time so you don't become jaded like many of us on here.

To answer your question yes bigger planes can land at BUR. UPS/fedEx has A-300 coming into BUR. Also, United had A-319's flying into BUR.

I like BUR because it is so small and easy to get into and out of. Also, when I lived in LA it was only a 7 minute drive home from BUR.
