Saver Upgrade Award on Lufthansa 30K miles Rules ?
Hi,
I recently got a saver upgrade award from an UA account for use on Lufthansa from a close friend who issued the certificate but could not use it due to a lack of availability.
It is a paper certificate with certificate value of 30,000.
Thanks for you advice!

- Is this is standby upgrade like the paper SWU for LH use, which are presented upon check-in?
- Or can it be confirmed at the time of booking? If yes, how? Who would I have to call? UA or LH?
- Which booking classes does it apply to?
Thanks for you advice!

1. Theoretically, no, but I've gotten away with it before.
2. Yes, by calling UA, telling them you have a UA-issued paper upgrade for LH, giving them your LH ticket number, having them queue off a request to LH, and calling back in a few days to hear the response.

- No, it can be confirmed in advance (not sure whether it can also be used on a standby basis).
- You would need to call UA. Of course, confirmation is subject to availability.

Thanks a lot for your answers. Being able to confirm an upgrade in advance, makes it much nicer. However, I am disappointed that it is not valid on D or Z fares like the SWU.
Best wishes!

Although I did this several years ago, I have been successful using these certificates to get upgraded at the gate. It works if there is space in the cabin you want to upgrade into.
