I don't believe you earn any miles on award travel, unless you charge taxes to an MP Visa.

As far as I know, the only program of any type that gives you credit for award business is HHonors (if you use an award for a hotel stay, you still get credit for a stay, although obviously no points except for whatever $$$ you spend and charge to the room).

Even then, I don't believe you get EQM, because you're not charging travel.

There is one caveat to the unqualified "no": Sometimes, because of irrops, a pax is rebooked into a class other than NC, XF, etc. In such a case, you would get both EQMs and RDMs. But it's a mistake and shouldn't happen under normal circumstances.

It may help get you EQM's in a somehwat indirect way. If you have an MP Plat card and nearing the $35K in annual spending on it, charging the taxes may just push you over that limit and you'll get your 5K EQM's. (I know, that's a technicality ... but it's true.)

I do think it would be in UA's interest to give EQM on standard awards--no RDM, nothing at all on saver awards, though. It might be a factor in encouraging a few more standard award redemptions over saver.

Do they not? Never done it, but I was under the impression that standard awards booked into revenue fare classes.

Nope. Even standard awards do not earn mileage.

Wouldn't you be at risk of de1kfication upon MP audit this way?

It is possible to negotiate full fare as a term of a bump or what not. UA typically does not audit accounts over such petty things.

Welcome to Flyertalk, OP! ^

Are we an expert in audits? You could never guarantee it.
I say if you don't do the crime you won't do the time, cover your butt.
UA is full of petty things

To be honest, I can't think of anything at UA that is guaranteed. Not sure what this has to do with a crime and doing the time, though...
