New Double Jetway in Denver breaks.

At the airport and saw where one of the new double jetways broke. The section that attaches to the rear of the plane collapsed on the wing of a plane.

My gate was changed because it looks like they closed the rest of the gates that have the double jetway. I have never used the new jetway and was actually looking forward to seeing how the loading process was. Oh well....

It doesn't look like there were any injuries Just lots of a firetrucks and alike checking out the plane still under the jetway.

Guess folks that complain they're not using the rear jetway will know why now! Ouch!

I had used them before... it's pretty sweet for loading
So wait, does this mean one Ted plane is out of commission?

DENVER (AP) - A passenger bridge collapsed over the wing of a United Airlines flight at Denver International Airport Friday, but no one was hurt.

United spokeswoman Megan McCarthy in Chicago said the Boeing 757 had just arrived from Boston and passengers had not begun to exit.

No one was hurt on the ground, either.

The plane had 176 passengers and eight crew members aboard.

She said most passenger jet way bridges do not go over wings, but a handful exist at DIA and other airports. They allow the aircraft to have exits from both the front and rear of the plane.

The bridge that collapsed was to the rear.

She said the extent of damage was unknown. She said crews have to remove the bridge and then move the airplane to another location for repairs.

The plane had been scheduled to fly to New York's La Guardia but that flight has been cancelled. The airline was working on getting passengers on another flight.

Oops... looks like Ted escaped damage... bummer that it took out a mainline 757 though.

It looks like the aircraft had just operated flight 965 from BOS. The article says that the ongoing flight to LGA was cancelled but it looks like UA found a different B752 to operate the flight to LGA (they might have stolen it from a DEN-SNA flight which they in turn cancelled).

I had wondered from the start how these dual bridges would hold up over time - they are pretty severely cantilevered.

9News has a small photo here but just an AP story.

Channel 4 has a story with typical lazy reporting - a reporterette standing in the terminal, accompanied by stock footage of the grand opening of the jetbridge (with a Ted A320 demonstrating). Show us what actually happened!

If it were a Ted, another mainline 320 may have been terrifyingly Ted-ified.
