Saver upgrade waitlist?

Howdy,

I searched in the archives, and couldn't find something specifically about this. Basically, last night, I missed out on a saver business class ticket leaving on friday for JFK-SFO and coming back on monday. Today, my only options for saver business are to leave on Saturday.

Now, I called united, but got the ICC who kept insisting they look for coach saver awards, and completely couldnt' tell me anything about a waitlist. So I ask the gurus here - two questions:

- Looking at .bomb, for flight 17 on friday, C seems fairly wide-open, but there are currently no available C awards. Is there a possibility that saver C awards will open up on that flight as the date approaches?

- Assuming there's a possibility, can I book a saver award ticket for saturday morning and waitlist for a saver C award on Friday afternoon/evening?

Thanks for the help!

Yes, quite a good possibility. While seatmaps can be poor indicators, certainly a C9 D9 config in the booking codes should give you an idea of forward "availability".

Yes, but if no availability opens, simply be ready to travel on Saturday.

If things look promising, I would actually go to the airport on Fri afternoon; if there any empty seats, you'll be flyin'

Have you done that? Gone to the airport a day before your award flight and standby? I have never heard of that.

That's very interesting. Is this something United TA will normally allow or did you just find a generous one?

I'd definitely like to try this if it is policy.

So - given that the ICC was unhelpful the last time I called, other than "call call call", is there somethign specific I should say or point them to? Or do I just hope I end up with the domestic call center (like I normally do as a 1p).

"it's my mom's birthday. i only see her 7 days a year because i'm usually stuck on the other side of the world. i'm willing to take the risk."

(ime, most moms try to help people that like their own mothers)
