*A Upgrades do work on UAL.com
I have had my second bit of luck using the Star Alliance upgrade online. In October I upgraded a TG C to F, BKK-SYD, and just the other day I upgraded LH C to F, FRA-JNB. It was 35,000 miles. I am really looking forward to checking out the new LH First Class Terminal in February.

My LH ticket was separate from any UA itn, therefore it will not come up on "My Itineraries". When I enter the flt info in the UA Star Alliance Upgrade on UAL.COM, it came through and told me it was confirmed. I called LH to "get a seat", and it was upgraded.

Congrats, especially on the LH F class deal. The FCT should be quite an experience. When did you request the upgrades relative to the actual flight dates? For example, the October TG upgrade was done for a flight in Oct/Nov/Dec?

On the TG flt I was able to get the upgrade about two months in advance. On the LH flight coming up mid February I started trying in December with no luck and finally got it late January, about three/four weeks before the flight.

Is there a way to search for upgrade inventory on Star carriers like LH & TG by using a website?

I was able to upgrade TG LAX-BKK (and BKK-LAX) earlier this month (Jan)
from Economy (B) to Business for a flight in early Feb. The upgrade was
confirmed immediately and shows up in my itinerary on VirtuallyThere.

Did you book your LH ticket directly with LH or with UA?
I assume you must have a LH Miles & More account to book online with LH and to then keep trying for the UG on the LH web site? But how do you use the UA website to request the UG if you booked on the LH web site?

I'm a little confused.

Once the ticket was issued I went to UAL.com, and to the Star Alliance Upgrade site since I was going to use UA Miles on the LH flight. The site asks for name, flt number, origin, and to, and day of travel, class of travel. Sometimes it asked for the LH PNR (I had to keep trying until I got the upgrade). Then just pushed the button, and it came back that the upgrade was confirmed.
I found it was easy to follow the directions. This is also how I did my TG flight
No Miles & More Account. All done through UA site since I was using UA miles.
