need help on missing a flight

This coming Friday I will be flying TED from Miami (MIA) at to New York LaGuardia (LGA) via Washington Dulles (IAD). Both flights are economy H class.

There are only 2 flights leaving from MIA to IAD (6:00am and 1:40pm) but plenty of flights from IAD to LGA.

My question is: on Friday if I miss both (6:00am and 1:40pm) flights from MIA to IAD (let say if I arrive MIA airport at 2:00pm), do u think the GA will put me stand by the other flight with different routing, like via Chicago (ORD), or the GA will simply ask me to stay at Miami for one night and come back the next morning to take the flight with same routing via IAD?

Thank you all for any input or suggestion in advance.

It is possible you might be allowed to standby, but it is very risky to depend on it. Are you booked for the 1:40pm? You'd have a better chance if that was the case than showing up 8 hours late for the 6am.

If you have any aversion to buying a new walk up ticket, it is probably not advisable to try this.

Thanks qasr! I'm booked (have electronic ticket) for the 6:00am flight from MIA to IAD on Friday, and I don't even think that I will be able to catch the stand by flight at 1:40pm because of a very important appointment. I think I will reach the airport by 2:00pm.

Do u have any further advice?

Call UA and ask to change your ticket to MIA-ORD-LGA on the flights you want. It might be as little as $100 if you have a restricted ticket...

Thanks again qasr! I have just found out from my e-ticket receipt that I'm in L class, I thought it was H, so the situation is even worse for standing by on any other flights or even the next day. I think I will have to call UA and take your advice.
