upgrade availability

upgrade availability
I want to fly from SFO-ICN (One-Way) on a full fare and use miles to upgrade, is there a way to tell the chances of the upgrade going through. Its for Oct 17.

call reservations and have them check the flights & routing options for you - they'll know what has availability. Either you can book online while on the phone or just buy the ticket from them directly. Once purchased & ticketed, you can immediately request your mileage upgrade. I've done this more than once (keep UA on the phone while I did the online booking and then had the upgrade applied).
