Connection Time
My first post, so please bear with me. My wife and I are going to Singapore on 11/21/06 on award tickets, unfortunatly in coach. We are booked on separate tickets.
Origianally we were booked entirely on UAL from PDX to SIN. We did not have to change terminals in LAX. However, UAL called and changed our itineries due to a change in schedule. They now put us on Singapore's flight 37 out of LAX whcih will require a terminal change. We only have and hour and thirty-eight minutes in LAX. This will require us to get from Terminal 8 (SkyWest) too TBIT, recheck in for Singapore and get to the gate in approx. 53 minutes as Singapore flt 37 boards at 7:15pm. This assumes that SkWest 6489 arrives on time.
I am concerned that we will not have enough time to make this connection, with the new security rules, check in line etc. I feel UAL should put us on and earlier flight out of PDX, since this change was made at their request. They tell me they cannot.
Is there anything I can do in this situation?

You should probably post this on the United board so the UA experts can help you.

Too tight. Call, call again, until you get the answer you want.

Since it is a schedule change, they should be flexible. I agree with others; you ought to see if you can get an earlier flight out of PDX.
I always try to book the flight BEFORE the one they offer, so I got more of a lay-over and more cushion in case the in-bound is late.
Ask if they will book you on UA 459, which is scheduled to arrive at 3:58 pm.

You could also ask to be put on SQ19 LAX->SIN direct. Not sure if UA would go for it though
PS - it leaves at around 9:30 or so

As one last note - from everything i've heard, aside from the time crunch, the change is a PLUS for you in that SQ Y should have better food & service than UA (of course no E+). Enjoy your trip.

One word of caution. Do not accept any changes that you are not totally satisfied with as once you agree to a change, UA is not obligated to make a "second" offer. As I understand their policy, they will not make that second offer. SOOOOOOO keep calling until you get the flight that you really want and then accept. Until then, just hang up is my advise as they should accomodate you since they are making the changes.
By the way, even if you make the mad dash and connect to the flight UA is trying to switch you to, do you think your bags will appear on the carrousel in SIN upon your arrival?
Good luck and have a great adventure in SIN---one of my favorite cities of the world.
