Elite qualification without flying

I did a few searched but couldn't find an updated thread.

What are the current ways to get elite qualification (miles / segments) without flying?

There's no way to acquire enough EQMs for elite status without flying. But UA is still offering the advance travel credit cards, right? Those come with 2P, 1P or 1K status, depending on the amount of credits purchased. (I believe 1K is $20k worth of credits)

Two questions:

1. Do these also give EQS?
2. What's the max you can earn in a year with these?

By the way, I do fly, and am premier exec right now. But I want to make it to 1K and I'll be coming up short this year on flying alone.

Does anyone know where information on these advance travel credit cards are? I haven't been able to find information on the UA.com site.

I thought there was another program where you could get a $5,000 card that would give you 2P status.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think you could get 5 UA MP Platinum Visa credit cards for $140 each (annual fee) and have 25,000 EQMs posted to your acct. This would make you 2P without ever flying.

A bit silly, but I think it's possible?!

  1. They are EQM only.
  2. MP Visa - 15,000 per card (5,000 signup, 5,000 united.com purchases, 5,000 for $35K spend)
    Elite choice - 7,500 max I believe (2,500 + 5,000) as a "carryover" to next year (for 1Ks - only 2,500 max for 1Ps)
    Choices - 5,000 per year

I think possible, but isn't it tied to hitting some spending tier? Like after 6 weeks and 2500.00 in purchases?

Interesting deal. I like the concept. I'm disappointed the status only lasts until February 2007. For the amount you are shelling out, the status should last for at least 12 months.

I would have considered this option a few months ago. But there is a good chance I can hit 2P with a couple of MRs in September.

Even with "normal" fares you can reach 2P for far less than $5k. ^
