Question When do AWARD waitlists usually clear?

My flight on 6/28 is UA saver award P.S. F SFO-JFK. CUrrently on 11:00 hoping to get on 7:55. When can I expect it to clear, if it does? Morning of flight? Night before? There are plenty of seats still available in F, though not NF class.

At the risk of getting run over by the bus, I'd bet on at the gate day of.

Code:
0 Connections
  	UA 956 0 SFO
06/28/06 07:55AM JFK
06/28/06 04:21PM 757 BS F7 C8 Y2 B2 M1 E0 U0 H0 Q0 V0 W0 S0 T0 K0 L0 G0 P4 A4 D7 Z0
Looks like the seat maps and buckets are in parity, with the exception of numerous missing seat assignments in Y.

Does standing by work in such situations if the waitlist doesn't clear?

I've done this before (twice), and wound up getting an FFCC DM card at checkin, which got changed to a BP in the JFK IFL, and second time - as soon as I got to the gate in SFO.

Changes are permitted in advance through United Reservations with applicable service charges. Standby is allowed on United flights.

I did this exact same thing for last Friday's flights (same ones you list) and my flights showed F7 for awhile. Then I cleared 3 days before departure onto the earlier flight. ^

UA may be holding back more inventory ahead of the holiday weekend.

You could also consider getting on the flight you want in NC (if available) for now and staying on the waitlist for NF, although not sure if that changes your position on the waitlist.

Good luck!

If you end up doing standby at the gate for a "waitlisted" award segment, does anyone know what you're standby priority would be? Would I be ahead of any same day standbys?

Award standbys (on UA) are treated the same as if you were traveling on a revenue ticket. For example, if WL for C class, then you would be ahead of pax (incl pax with higher status) trying to UPG to C.

I got my son an award tkt using my miles (as a 1K). On the return from LAS, the LAX-HNL segment cleared but the LAS-LAX segment is still waitlisted.

How does it work? Can he still be waitlisted even though he commences travel from HNL-LAS? That is, could the waitlist clear at some point prior to his confirmed return flights?

Yes, waitlists stay in the record until the flight in question departs. It doesn't matter if you've already flown earlier segments on the record. As you may know, you need an all UA itinerary (or all UA remaining segments) to waitlist.

I have had waitlists for my return after the outbound flights.

You can waitlist up to 2 flights per segment. Since miles came from an 1K account, in coach, there is a special NY booking class.
