ANC Flight Changes
It looks like UA is adding more ANC flights in the summer, but cutting back flights in the winter.
SFO-ANC starts Jun 8, ends Oct 30.
ORD-ANC is double daily starts Jun 8, ends Sep 5.
SEA-ANC ends Sep 5 (used to be year round)
DEN-ANC is year round.
Sad to see the SEA-ANC flight end so early in the season.

Anc-sea
the ANC-SEA flight often ignores the noise restriction corridor into Sea-Tac and flies over my house at 4:45 AM.....so I won't miss it !!!

I think this move somewhat makes sense. I recall from my 6am SEA-DEN flights that there were a bunch of connecting pax from ANC. So having ANC-DEN instead of ANC-SEA-DEN makes sense. Already plenty of competition on the ANC-SEA and ANC-West Coast flights that a year round service on UA just doesn't make sense.
This will change things for the intl F/As in SEA, though, b/c SEA-ANC was considered an international flight for cabin crew scheduling purposes.

UA has a history of canceling very successful flights because they couldn't improve on a 100% load factor (that's essentially why SEA-HNL disappeared years ago, although I admit I exaggerate a little bit). They'll be giving up a lot of freight revenue from the ANC-SEA run (ever see that flight and count the containers of fish that get offloaded?).

I was in the SEA RCC 2 days ago. The ladies there are very sad to see ANC go. It has been a UAL SEA stalwart for years. Unfortunately, UA is getting very little O&D traffic on the flight. As such, it makes better sense for UA to move the flights down to SFO.

Interesting schedule changes. I remember more than a few years ago - before getting married -- I'd fly more than a few times to ANC to fly fish for the large Rainbow trout in the Bristol Bay area. UA had a flight that left ANC around 7AM so that we could take the last commuter from the "bush" to ANC, overnight and get a fresh start back in the AM. Now we have to either sit in the terminal for 4-5 hours or take a quick trip downtown before catching the red-eye back to the lower 48.
