Just noticed the changes and I must say that I am not thrilled. Anyway, at least one can still try to redeem a few UA miles before October 2006.

Thanks.

Since there is a thread on that article here
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=551273
let's focus discussion of that article itself on that thread.

This is all pure speculation.
I am in the UK and I think that that the MP awards to Australia/NZ at 120,000 in Business are great value, and they are not changing in October.

With regard to NZ C awards availability there seems to be 2 seats available on flights LHR-AKL via HKG, I have never seen any available from LHR-AKL via LAX.

I have just booked SQ C from LHR to CHC and NZ C from AKL to LHR via HKG. This was using UA MP . So there is availability on both SQ and NZ. For the record the ANA redemptions site was accurate.

As the NZ AKL-LHR via HKG service has only recently been announced this might explain the availability

Has anyone bothered to complain about the new mileage requirements? It sounds like people decided to suck it up instead.

On the website, go to:
Home > Customer service > Mileage Plus support > Email: Mileage Plus service center

I think people have a better chance of getting the fees knocked off than the mileage rolled back, and from what was said at Freddies by UA, I don't think either is happening.

I sent a nice e-mail and United India was more than willing to send me an excellent form letter that had nothing to do with the subject of my original e-mail... I think SkiAdcock is definitely correct about this.

I sort of forgot about online customer service at UAL.

I'll send a paper letter though anyway.

Is there someplace to see a summary of whatever it was that UA said at the Freddies? If not, could you give us the highlights (or lowlights)?

It was verbal & all UA spin - this gets us together w/ the rest of the airlines (yeah, putting you at their level on both mileage & fees, & that's a benefit how, that you just blew?).

I was stunned personally that UA thought dragging themselves down thought it was a good thing. They gave up a bunch of competitive benefits etc & tried to say it was 'good' for us. Spare me the crap.

They couldn't spin the fees - other than it brings us w/ the rest of the airlines - duh, that was a competitive advantage you gave away UA. You could have said - come on over to us we don't charge fees. Bozos.

I didn't like the mileage increase (ever). Am I allowed to slap the next UA person who says this puts us in line w/ 'some' other airlines?

Please, I redeem UA, not 'some other airline'. I don't literally care what they do & literally DON'T compare them to UA. I'm only interested in UA & yes I do care when its' mileage awards increase from 25-100% more for the same awards.

Cheers.

No, re: in writing re: the Freddies. That was verbal.

Thanks. You have given me a sense of what they said. I am glad I was not there to hear suffer through such crap in person. It is bad enough that they have made these changes, but to be told it is somehow (how?) "good" for us (did they also say how much they value us, probably many times?) is contemptuous. (Did any MPers tell the UA reps what we think of these changes?)

(The only inter-island flight that I'm aware that United actually flies is OGG-KOA on United flight 3, but you cannot buy a ticket to go OGG-KOA, you have to go OGG-ORD with a stop in KOA; similarly there is no StarAlliance carrier that flies between the islands.)

The interisland Hawaii award is via partner Aloha Airlines - and as far as I can tell, they haven't announced an increase in the mileage (5000) required for that (or any) partner award.
An unresolved question at the time of the October increases was whether United would be raising its partner awards on Aloha to 10K.

Some discussion today in the Hawai`i forum seems to verify that both Aloha and IslandAir (btw, you have to ask the CSR to check each separately) inter-island partner awards are still 5K round-trip or open-jaw.

Because I posted to this thread before, it shows up on my "subscription" list. When I saw there was something new to this rather old thread about "Press release: Changes to Mileage Plus Program," I feared that it meant we were somehow to be screwed yet again. Glad to see that it is not about a new screwing, that things are remaining the same for the time being.
