For good housekeeping and ease of location, let me merge this thread with our more comprehensive UA smoking area thread. Ocn Vw 1K, Moderator, UA.

PEK: AC lounge. Probably other areas throughout but have not seen them.
In PVG, I think there's also smoking sections in the restaurants and smoking rooms in the gate areas downstairs.

In PEK, there's smoking rooms at the end of the Intl terminal halls by gates 14-17 and 6-8

In HKG, there's a smoking room by gate 61. There's also a smoking room as you arrive in the long hallway before you reach Immigration.

Also, OP if it's not too much to ask. Would you be so kind as to consolidate the info into your OP at your convenience.

Based upon my experience at the ORD B6 RCC on Tuesday, I'd say that the Chicago Police Department had declared the emergency stairs (back around to the far right of the entrance) their personal smoking area. I really enjoyed watching a parade of Chicago's finest grab cups of the RCC coffee and stroll through the "alarmed" door (it is unlocked). Every time that door opened, a cloud of smoke wafted into the RCC.

to update: as of thursday, may 24th, the "smoking room" no longer exists due to the az no smoking ban in any public bldg (save the indian casinos) but the smoking area in the chain link fence enclosed walkway to the ux gates is still there ^

I think airports should provide separate smoking rooms/areas for smokers. That said, in FRA the smoking areas are along side the main walking area and the "air purifiers" are useless. The smoke wafts into the main walking area between gates. In this case, I think they should suspend use until they can find an appropriate area.

A German thing, I think. MUC is just as bad.

Another reminder that this thread is for listing places where you can smoke airside while flying UA. It is not for your political comments and personal feelings on smoking regulations. If you care to share those, please do so in Omni.

Sorry, this smoking lounge closed March 30. Outside only now, as far as I know.

Aww this sucks. Anyone know anything about AKL?

Love the LAX area btw. Though it's a walk from most of my gates, usually.

Also YVR is still okay, as of April this year. Not even a minute away from my gate near the mini-food court area.

AKL has no inside smoking areas- period. Their smoking lounge disappeared a couple of years ago- but, security and immigration are pretty quick and you can smoke outside near the car park.

Per requests, I've updated the information in the first post. Since these things seem to change so often, to try and keep it accurate, I only included the information posted here in 2007. If there is older information that is still accurate, please post or send me a PM so the first post can be updated.

Thanks

In NRT, there are still "smoking rooms" available in the terminal for those without NH lounge access. One of these is right around the corner from the RCC.

Best, Dave

ATL - T-gates closed (temporarily?). The smoking lounge near the RCC has been boarded up probably due to ongoing renovations.

LHR - no more smoking entire airside due to new UK laws that went into effect during summer 07.
