Using an E-Certificate retrospectively?

I'm a UA newbie. Is it possible to use a 10% electronic certificate and or a current miles bonus promotion for tickets that have already been purchased ( but not flown)? I have flts booked/paid for that would qualify for an e-certificate I've just received and also a miles bonus promotion they has a booking start date after my purchase date (Australia/US travel). I've spoken with UA in Australia and they aren't interested in my E-certificate but then again I've found that they generally have little idea about many of UA's offerings.

Thanks....

Well, short answer is no to both. But there may be workarounds.

Do you travel OZ-US often? If so, cancel your current ticket and use it for future travel. Then rebook a new ticket on line, with the discount, and with the promotion.

If you don't travel the route often enough, there may be one other option. How long ago did you book? How far away is the trip? Has there been a significant schedule change? If there has been, you can request a cancelation and refund (though it may not be granted).
