Before they were letting 1K's and 1P's designate anyone as a 2P (provided you hit some mileage threshold). Now it's 3P instead, with watered down benefits.

So what?!

As would I.

Is it based on the nomination of a upper echelon elite only? Just 1Ks? Premier Executives too?

Or is it a soft landing for UA elites who fail to requalify for even Premier status?

Or is it a new elite level with a lower annual mileage threshold than 25,000 miles?

And how does this status differ from Economy Plus Access, other than presumably no $299 fee?

Just like some people get Global Sales Upgrades from UA sales staff around the world, I'd imagine now they can gift status as well.

So what, exactly, are the differences between UA & Southwest for the PWS (person without status)? Let's see... the Southwest customer gets 2-3 inches more legroom, boards by seating area, gets to print his/her boarding pass at home... and maybe gets to be on TV! :D

Maybe this is a precursor to changing those Seating Area designations:

Seating Area 1 -- UGS & First Class
Seating Area 2 -- 1K and Premier Executive
Seating Area 3 -- Premier & Premier Associate
Seating Area 4 -- General Members & non-members

Or else UA will introduce 46 seating zones like DL and US

The bonus program I specifically recall many of us signing up for last year specifically included being able to designate someone as a Premier, not any of this Premier Associate business. Are the designees going to be 2P or 3P?
If 3P, then UA misrepresented that program, as it appeared to mimic the T&C of the designation program the year before.

I think his point was more "this is actually better than it was before, so why get in a hussy?!"

As long as they don't start handing this out to everyone for menial things, then I agree, it is not that big a deal. Heck, it is great if you can convert someone to fly mostly UA just because they have some low tier status. Thats a good idea. But what they need to do is remember that the upper tiers still want their elite lines and early boarding. They should adjust accordingly. I am all for the expansion on the boarding zones. I know that some people try to go when it isnt their turn, but at least they would be "trying" to make it work.

I ask myself that same question. How do people end up in group 4??

You know, they might move 2P and/or 3P to group 2 and still call it priority.

kcvt750 Feb 28, 2006 6:29 am

So is it 2P-Lite or Mileage Plus +?
