UA and SAA codeshare

Was checking my mileage summary this morning and noticed the press release on this dated Jan 17. I for one have been waiting for ages for this code share to go through.

Mileage runs to Jo'Burg or Cape Town anyone???

Not sure about mileage runs as the press release says no EQMS until they're a full *A partner, supposedly sometime in April (one agent told me it's supposed to be April 2, but who knows). I started a thread last week saying EQMs were coming Jan. 14, after I heard that from three international agents, but the press release on this definitely says otherwise.

Even with EQMs, is it cheaper than going to Asia?

I've found really good airfare deals on SAA directly from the website but I've never booked it as I have been waiting for this partnership to gel. I don't know much about their airline. Perhaps with the *Alliance being official there will be some introductory fares or it will just be more on the fare radar on FT. There isn't a whole lot of discussion about travel to/from Africa here, or at least not as much as Asia.

I for one have been dying to get to CPT so this makes me very happy! Of course EQMs have to be part of the deal.
