I guess one way in which the movement from E- to E+ could be cut off at the pass is if FA's were to mention over the PA that movement from E- (rows (11 or higher) to E+ (rows 10 and lower) is not allowed.

I am with you on that...I don't think most FAs know that some folks paid extra $200 to seat in E+

Self service seat upgrades

On a recent flight from JFK to LAX a pax took my seat before I even boarded. I knew he took it because my son was in the middle seat. I was late boarding because I was waiting for a last min upgrade to FC. I was expecting when I was upgraded my son would move from the middle seat into the aisle seat and have a middle free. Not so. Some experienced traveler kept track of who was waiting for FC upgrades and took a chance that those seats would be free. This is nothing new. People did it all the time in the past. They even do it before the plane is fully loaded on spec.

Thanks for posting this issue because now I think I will try this next time out

You're a better man than I, I guess.

Were I to have an empty seat next to me in E+ because of my status, I wouldn't take kindly to a POS making my flight utterly uncomfortable. The last thing I need is my shoulders and back to ache for 2 days because the person sitting next to me forces me to sit cocked into the aisle at a 20-degree angle.

Of course, my flights tend to be 5-hour transcons and I am pushing 250 lbs myself (for all you smart alecks, my waist is only 36-37 inches though - I'm still rather muscular after playing college football and getting into competitive powerlifting during my Navy days...).

I'd be more than a little upset and almost certain to call in the FA.

But I also sit aisle seats almost exclusively, so I don't think it's likely to happen to me.
