Upgrades
Heard a rumor that two electronic regional confirmed certificates can be exchanged for one systemwide. Is that true? Can a 1K get that, or is it GS only?
Merci en avance.

Through UA, I doubt it can happen as I am sure one of our Global Services or 1K members would have already done so.
You can do it, however, through the Coupon Connection forum via trade.

You can't do it via UNITED.
All 1Ks have a different use pattern.
Myself I almost never use CR1s. But am always short of SWUs - which cover the domestic segment upgrades anyway.
Many other 1Ks who fly domestically end up using their 6 x SWU for 6 domestic trips as they run out of CR1s, and seldom if ever fly It'l.
In the past both these parties might assist each other.
If they gifted me a couple of SWU's for a trip, heck those 4 x CR1 I can see I will not use, could possibly be gifted to them in return for their enormous kindness and generosity.
As long as both upgrades are pretty well long dated this seems to suit both camps. I've got 4 or 6 CR1s right now, I will likely not use actually.
OTOH, very short dated (generally a few weeks left on them) CR1 or SWUs are often given away by folks rather than see them expire. I've certainly done that, as have many others on FT.
There is nothing more tragic for most on FT to see a valuable upgrade turn to dust - and both these types do that upon expiry. Heck 500 milers expiring turn into 500 miles, but an expired SWU just vanishes without trace.
I have had 3 FT'ers email me this month alone saying they had April expiring SWU's and was I travelling - if so they were mine, or did I know anyone who contributes usefully and regularly to this Forum who was, that I might recommend.
All found a good home of course. ^ One covered a last minute LHR-SFO-SYD (24 hours) which was pretty neat. Why so many expired April I have no idea.

Well, I'm just a general member on UA and thus I never qualify for any upgrade coupons. I'm in steerage every time.
My wife is taking a flight on May 29 cross-country (OAK-IAD), so if anyone happens to have an expiring upgrade at that time that they're not giving to anyone more worthy than myself, I'd certainly **looooove** to know about it so I might make her flight more enjoyable.

cepheid - well confirmed upgrades are a cherished bennie of flying 100,000+ miles a year. No-one likes sitting in coach, which is why confirmed upgrades are highly valued.
So do that and you are set. Or stay a general member and sit in coach. Choice is clearly yours. I'd like to have a Ferrarri too, but my choice is not to fork out for one.
Otherwise you can seek them on Coupon Connection via a trade of something desireable you may have surplus, but with only 8 posts I'm not sure you have access to that Forum - it used to be 100 posts required IIRC?

ozstamps: I know that being a general member relegates me to coach, which is why I'm complaining.
I'd love to fly more but often my airline choice is limited by what the university is willing to pay for. Anyhoo, yes, I know it's my "fault" for being a general member. What I was asking was basically, if someone had expiring upgrades that they couldn't use and couldn't find anyone more worthy than myself to use, that they consider giving them to a lowly plebian like myself rather than letting them expire.
Of course, with all the members on this excellent site, I'm sure I'm probably the least worthy of the bunch!
As for Coupon Connection, I didn't even see that forum listed on the forum list... is it "hidden" or is there someplace else I need to look?
Thanks!

As I recall Randy's broad reasoning he posted then, was that CC was a forum that basically rewarded those that had contributed a little to the other Forums and thus FT as a whole, and the overall knowledge base of the Community.
It also allowed those in there to have a little bit of an overview about the history of the folks posting in there, as often some pretty significant goodies are on offer there.
So get posting might be the tip of the day.

This is part of what Randy posted in Feb on CC:
CC being its own forum, reduces the likelihood of program monitoring. Also, I can provide moderating to see that basic rules are followed and that our members can be protected from scams. There is the potential for rampant fraud in that forum, which shouldnt be allowed elsewhere. The mods have been able to identify the usual suspects and have done an amazing job so far - a job that gets my full support. They can and have also done a good job of toning down the eBay style of buying and selling for profit.
The intent of CC is to benefit savvy members within our community. In that particular forum, we have rules that do not allow the forum to be available to new members until they have established a number of posts and time online with FT. Sure, we could post warnings about dealing with new members, but what we dont need are more stickies and announcements.

Thanks for that info OZ..I see that you also inquired on that other thread as to what the criteria are. I have quite a few posts but have been an FTer for less than 2 months and I still don't have access. Will be nice to finally know what the criteria are.

Hmmm - I'm a relatively new users - but I do have access/posted on the CC.
FT is awesome - I only started flying seriously due to business since a year ago - and it's provided a tremendous amount of information. Hopefully my post contribute something valuable to somebody.
I wish I was a 1K (only a 1P) so that I could help out the community. My co. only pays for coach (cheapest reasonable fare) and I do only international so I get to enjoy the back of the bus quite often. I've been lucky recently w/ some Op-Ups, Using Miles, and my trip back home next week from Rome I upgraded to Business by a gifted SWU from a colleage (1K) who I did some side work for.
Anyone have any expiring CR1s for May they aren't interested in?
I got a few trips for pleasure - i'm queued w/ my 500Milers - but those don't have good chances ??
Ciao de Roma!

The original criteria was 100 posts. However, many new members just randomly bumped up 100 old (often 12-18 month old) threads or posted 100 pointless threads to reach that limit and then start bargaining/begging.
So the criteria was changed to thirty-days after activating your membership.

SEA1K4EVR's post above (Registered March 13 and can't post) seems to prove that.

Like OMNI - might be a combo of posts and time served.

He also has 197 posts, so if a combo, might be 200?

It does look like the "30-day rule" is the correct one as there is a post by a member with 16 posts who registered in January 2005 in CC - http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=427369.
SEA1K4EVR should be able to get in under either criteria, so maybe their account is messed up and they should drop a line to FT Support.
