15a on full upper deck or empty row downstairs?

May this be the most difficult of life's problems!

Do I go for 15a LAX-NRT on a full upper deck or 7c with an empty lower deck?

Mind you,m the flight is still a few weeks away, and those free seats may yet go out full. But let's pretend the flight is now. What do you all prefer?

I hear that mini-cabin on the 747 in business class has less pitch. I was in Row 6 and certainly felt more cramped than on Rows 15-18 upstairs.

That said, empty rows won't necessarily always stay empty. Revenue or non-revenue standby passengers can easily fill up an empty lower cabin (which does tend to be filled up last as upper deck are perennial favorites).

Pishhttt, what kinda FT'er are you! Go for row 15!

NCRBILL Mar 14, 2005 5:48 pm

I would take the upstairs over the downstairs any day. And row 15 is best of all. Not a single set is close to you.

Go for upstairs and you will always be upstairs.

Unless of course you get bumped by an air marshall. ;)

Row 15 - hands down!

No need to think or argue!

I always sit upstairs but next week I am trying Downstairs out 25 F and will let you know.

Not from 15A. Maybe from 15B, but not from a window. Our excellent "protectors" like the aisle.

To the OP: Go for upstairs. The downstairs will fill up (I'm almost sure) and then you'll be unhappy!

Usually its only the aisle that will get you bumped. Zrs70 should be fine in 15A.

Upstairs... unless I want the seat... :)

I would take row 15 every time. However, this has been taken before I get my reservation done recently, and have been very happy with either 25 / 26 c or f. Row 25 center has loads of legroom to the bulkhead, and row 26 center has about 6 inches more than most rows. The center seat in these two rows are also the last C seats the fill, so there is a chance of an empty seat next to you.

No way I would take the forward mini-cabin unless I had no choice.

One more vote for row 15! I'm on it to LHR in early April!

eggepop Mar 14, 2005 6:38 pm

i like row 15 too, mini cabin is less noisy, less traffic, and just better

cawhite Mar 14, 2005 7:10 pm

Zach, go for row 15!!!!! While you wouldn't be "unhappy" downstairs, it just isn't the same as being upstairs. From my experiences upstairs vs down, the service upstairs tends to be better and the leg room in row 15 can't be beat! Also as mentioned above, less noise & less traffic.

FWIW, last month ORD-HKG, I stopped downstairs when I decided to go for a walk and chatted with a couple of the younger FAs who made a comment about how the UD is like being on a private plane. That was the 2nd or 3rd time I'd heard that although I'd never quite thought of that comparison myself.

another vote for upstairs!! no debate :D
