Or perhaps more accurately, how many discrete devices will I be allowed to use when at a ticket counter and paying for a single, round trip fare? Domestic? International? How about online with an agent?--here, cash is obviously not involved, though the maximum quantity of "devices" might be.
I seem to be amassing $50 flight vouchers (oh, thousands and thousands.. ) and remember a time when cash, a credit card and ONE voucher represented the maximum combination of devices I was permitted to offer in exchange for airfare.
Hoowzat work now?

For clarification, are you asking specifically about United's rules in this regard, or is this a more general question?

There should be a profile to refer the UA agent to. It should begin S*PMO/....

That profile will tell whether the vouchers are combinable.

I have a $100 service check profile=ual, and a $150 denied boarding cert cannot find a profile code on that latter one.

The $150 dbc voucher also says noncombineable, but I got 4 of them to = a total of $600 vdbc. Would that even mean that the $150 certs cannot be combined together? And how about the $100 UAL cert with a $150 bdbc cert?

Sadly, I haven't gotten a DBC dollar-denominated voucher in a long time; the terms & conditions used to make clear that you could freely combine vouchers from the same booklet, but could not combine vouchers from different DBC booklets.

The fundamental differentiation is that some vouchers are considered "Type A", or discounts; others are considered "Type B", or a form of payment. Your service check is probably a "Type A" voucher; your DBC vouchers are "Type B" vouchers.

Some vouchers will say that they're not combinable with other vouchers or certificates, but even then, knowledgeable agents usually will allow you to combine a "Type A" discount voucher with a "Type B" payment voucher. Your mileage will definitely vary.

This is still the case (as of my March-issued VBD TCs).
