Obsessive upgrade checking

OK, I admit it, when I'm on the waitlist for an upgrade, I can't help but check its status on-line often. With international upgrades, and even domestic upgrades on 3-class planes, this seems essential, as if one doesn't "confirm" the upgrade when it goes "KL," then one can lose it.

My problem is that I have an international upgrade pending, and I can't see its status on-line. (The "change" itinerary feature won't work for this particular record.) I've been trying to call UA every few days but the whole enterprise has an air of absurdity to it. Any other ideas people have come up with?

Can't you just have Easy Update send your cell phone a text message? That's how I usually get my upgrade confirmations.

www.viewtrip.com is better than UA for seeing status of upgrades and it covers many *A flights.

Easy Update is great for UA status. Just set up a quiet period so that they don't text you in the middle of the night.

Too bad it doesn't work. First of all, it only supports Internet Explorer, and even then it can't find any of my reservations.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
OCD symptoms cause distress, take up a lot of time (more than an hour a day), or significantly interfere with the person's work, social life, or relationships.

Most individuals with OCD recognize at some point that their obsessions are coming from within their own minds and are not just excessive worries about real problems, and that the compulsions they perform are excessive or unreasonable. When someone with OCD does not recognize that their beliefs and actions are unreasonable, this is called OCD with poor insight.

OCD symptoms tend to wax and wane over time. Some may be little more than the "fear of riding is steerage", riding in any seat except 2B, not having their meal choice first, not being acknowledged as "somebody important", or even worse, having their luggage hit the carousel last.

The "absuridity" of this this "dilemma" is that, "No matter where you go, there you are"!!!

Actually ROBB---
Pre-departure drinks are not an issue or a problem for pax's with OCD, due to the fact that they occassionally can usually be found washing their hands and "hogging" one of the lav's during the entire boarding process.

Kind of makes it rough for an accurate "seat count". In fact, I don't know if you noticed, but many OCD pax's have become "laps" due to the fact that they have hidden in the lav, immediately after boarding, for up to an hour or more, using up all of the hot water, and not coming out until the meals are being served.

^ No ROBB, obtaining pre-departure drinks is not a problem, or reason for concern, in this instance. ^

I usually call to inquire about the upg before I ticket so that's I'm fine. I'll do a different flight if need be to make sure I get it. If there aren't any then I always book the ones with the most F seats still for sale.

I have it set up to email me if it gets upg'd, but what I do is look every day how many seats there are for sale so that I figure out if my odds got worse or stayed the same. When it goes to F-2 I start to get a headache, if it goes to F-1 I get a headache, if it goes to F-0 I get sick.

I am not sure what else can be done, other than periodic calling?

Yes, you can wait for an EasyUpdate SMS, phone call or email, but I have limited experience with those working. Maybe one time in ten where I've been waitlisted for an upgrade and it cleared? This was my most recent waitlist experience however so maybe this is now more reliable?

Also, I can no longer view my waitlisted segments, just to see that they are in fact still waitlisted, by going to "My Itineraries" and selecting "Change itinerary", where you could see the waitlisted segment(s) at the very bottom of the screen. For three separate itineraries where I have waitlisted segments I could, for a week or two after ticketing, see the "Change itinerary" screen but now I cannot? (I get this message: "Your itinerary cannot be changed online. Please contact your booking source to change your itinerary and exchange your tickets.")

Also, I have no experience with what the "View itinerary" screen looks like once a segment clears? Does it show up in red? With a KL? Or does it just show confirmed upgrade with an automatic seat assignment? Two of my waitlisted segments are domestic, BOS-SFO and ORD-BOS, so I realy do not expect those to clear until check-in if at all. The other segment is NRT-BKK which in the past has cleared at 28 days, and 9 days.

I've never had a problem with EasyUpdate not giving me this info the moment it happens.

You really should try it out. You'll get an SMS right on the hour when your 24/72/100 hour mark clears. If I have a connecting flight, I always know that that SMS an hour after the first must mean the remainder of the upgrades cleared.
