Popularity of E+ for IAD to EZE
Just wondering what the popularity of E+ is for this particular leg. The flight I'm taking is showing good availability by fare buckets in Y, but on the seat assignment map basically an empty E+ cabin and a full E- cabin. I got the last seat available in E- but I'm wondering if I should unassign my not bad aisle seat to try for a check in/gate assignment "free" E+ seat. Are they typically all sold out by the time of check in?
I'm a *G and although I've had luck with op ups to Business/First from Y in the past on full flights, my understanding from reading this forum is that there is no status based upgrade scheme for remaining unassigned E+ seats like there is for Business or First when the E- cabin is full.
Not sure if I should take the gamble!

Are you prepared to sit in E-? If not, you should just pay for E+.
If you open up a say, middle seat in E- by unseating yourself, it's possible no one will grab it. If you give up an aisle or window seat, you might wind up in a middle.

If you can only get a middle E- seat now, by all means unseat yourself now. You have nothing to lose. But if you have an E- aisle or window now, do you want to gamble and be ok if end up with a middle seat? I personally would not trade an E- aisle seat for an E+ middle seat.
I dont know for sure if UA status doesnt play into E- to E+ op-up. But it makes sense since anyone with UA status most likely would not be in E- to begin with.

I don't know about IAD to EZE (I ended up flying IAD to GRU to SCL) but I flew EZE to IAD on Sunday and it was full to the brim.... it would have been worth every penny, but I ended up in the Emergency Exit, 15A, which is a bulkhead and horrible!!! it was not worth the extra money I paid.....
