EQM Calculation Help!

Hello,

I was just doing some EQM checking and noticed my calculations are off from what UA is showing me.

I search my Mileage Plus activity to show me all flights flown this year. I took my flight miles (actual flown miles) and added a 50% EQM bonus for my FACDJZYB flights.

So, I calculate it like this:
SFO-NRT C-Class flight would be - 5124 actual + 2562 EQM bonus = 7686 EQM
SFO-BOS V-Class flight would be - 2704 actual + 0 EQM bonus = 2704 EQM

My math adds up my current EQM miles to 61734, but United says I'm at 70654. For the life of me, I can't figure out why there is an 8920 EQM discrepancy.

Can anyone help me figure this out? My status is Premier Exec and I do have a Mileage Plus card, but I dont' think that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance!

p.s. - I do know there is a 5000 EQM bonus on my MP card, but I'm pretty sure I haven't reached that.

Did you remember to include partner flights credited to UA? They count for EQM but don't count towards lifetime miles (until the one-time adjustment is made). Also, there were some Double EQM promotions earlier this year.

I'm pretty sure partner flights are included. I checked star alliance partners in my MP activity.

The only Double EQM deal in my city I've seen is SFO-ORD, but I haven't flown there at all. Is it possible there was another EQM promotion that I wasn't aware of? I thought I only got those promotions if I signed up for it...

I wish there was a way to just see EQM credits in MP activity!

Did you take into account that 500EQMs are awarded for flights shorter than 500 miles?

I also saw some extra EQM popped in my account twice this year without a reason. I checked everything and couldn't figured it out. Since it more than I expected, I just took it.

Sounds like a Plat Card, if so, were any flights purchased with that card on united.com?
The 5K bonus is from YTD $35K spending

Any irrops rebooked into a full fare class?

Partner flights?

Thanks, I don't think I've hit $35k this year just yet, I didn't see an EQM 5K bonus deposited.

No other partner flights, and I only have one <500 mile trip and I accounted for that in my EQM calculation. No rebookings that I'm aware of either. I'm baffled, but like mike_L I'm going to take it without asking too many questions. =) I'm sure its from something that I just completely missed though.

On another topic, I'm projected to hit 90k miles by the end of this year. Do you guys think its worth it to do a mileage run/trip so I can make 1K status?

Thanks!

It will probably make a noticeable difference in your upgrade percentages.

I'd like to keep this thread on its topic of the EQM calculation, but a reference for the OP in answering the last Q. about the value of going for 1K can be found here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...1k-2012-a.html

I've long wondered why they don't provide that information. They provide a visual countdown bar showing progress toward the next status level, but none of the detail that EQM-obsessed customers want.

Don't know which version of the CC you have, but the version I have gives EQMs for the first $5000 spent on united.com. You won't see these post anywhere on the activity list, they just show up in the total.

Of course, that could only explain 5000 of the 8920 EQMs.

How about EQM bonuses on other *A carriers? I see you posted that you accounted for the flights, but some of them also provide EQM bonuses for the upper fare classes.

By the way, nice problem to have.

Could be that he hit his $35k and spent another $3920 on united.com for tickets. This has long been a gripe of mine about united.com and something I often mention on ualsurvey.com.

DL also. They show "MQM Earned" and MQS Earned" columns under the account activity.
