Can I get VDB vouchers after the flight? I was denied boarding.

In my experience, getting involuntarily moved from a connecting flight to a nonstop results in getting mileage credit for the originally ticketed itinerary and nothing else.
It's hard to show any injury for a flight that arrives earlier than originally planned other than benefits not really in your contract of carriage, like being on flights operated by a specific carrier.
The VDB situation must be costing United a pretty penny. A few months ago at LAX, they were offering passengers $400 to ride a bus to San Diego.

This is one of the reasons I think that the OP's best chances lie in the direction of bad customer service. It looks like everyone did what they legally had to, but switching a passenger's routing is not very nice.

Actually, the way UA handles VDB is probably the smartest in the industry, which is likely why CO has adopted it too. A flat $400 of what amounts to an expiring airline gift certificate might sound like a lot on some flights and a little on others, but its generally in the range of what anyone considers acceptable. There is an absolutely massive amount of breakage on such types of compensation (don't follow what you see here on FT, we are extreme outliers), which is likely the reason UA stopped doing the old DBCFREE altogether (while we like dollars off better, ma and pa kettle are far more likely to use their "free ticket"). CO was the worst in the industry for having to pay out IDB compensation, which comes straight out of the bottom line with zero breakage - because its cash. I've almost never seen UA have to IDB someone, because people are more than willing to take the travel credits in that amount. That is very powerful.
