Using miles to upgrade on CO codeshare?

As of right now, I have some credits from CO from a canceled ticket. I am thinking of using it to exchange for domestic tickets on for me and my parents for SFO-ORD-LAX.

Chances are I will be buying a CO codeshare UA flight. I also want to use miles to upgrade them to F

Questions:
1. Will I be able to use UA miles to upgrade the flight?
2. If I am required to use CO miles, will I need to pay for co-pay?

(I am 1P on UA and nobody on CO)

SFO-ORD-LAX

Could you not drive quicker? Or is this about more miles?

For now it is best to use CO OP miles,
but suggest first you read http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...tus-tools.html

Become a CO Gold, so exempt from domestic copays
Transfer MP miles to OP to use for upgrades

Hey, if it's about building more miles, I'm all for it. ^^

I've got my sons convinced that the long routes are worth it! (they are beginning to like their award tix and 2P status). I'm still working on Mrs. PFXLAX, but I think she's coming around.
