I agree that the Elite Choice program has been devalued, but I don't think it's completely valueless. My ability to nominate someone for 2P status for hitting 125 EQM is a nice bonus. I'll take it over nothing.

Frankly what I'm going to miss most is the EQM/EQS rollover. This has saved me from an extra MR in the past. But no more... :(

I agree...I didn't end up needing it this year but the option of having those extra 5K EQMs definitely was valuable.

One not very encouraging data point: The 2011 elite benefits flyer (the booklet in which UA mails your new card) says nada about Elite Choice. I just looked at the one I received for 2010, and it has the full Elite Choice program details.

As with UA's conspicuous silence about the future of E+, this suggests that the company is still assessing its options, and I wouldn't read it (yet) as proof that Elite Choice is dead.

Well, the UA Elite Choice program was really there to add incentive to fly more. With the new CR1 accrual methodology, the incentive is CR1s. Plus CO never had an Elite Choice type program that was open to everyone. So I think Elite Choice is toast.

So thank Mr. $misek for a change that he thought we'd like.

Without the Elite Choice Program, does this mean there will be no more 3Ps after 1/2012?

i liked it better when they offered specific months the following year with DEQM. if they do Elite Choice in 2011, i hope they include such choices.

Elite Choice wasn't always the only path to 3P. UA offered me a complimentary 3P trial in 2009.

With flying only 500 mile segments, the elite choice program was a way for me to get at least 50K extra miles a year. I will definatately miss it.

If I were you, once I hit 100K or had 100K scheduled on UA I would switch to a second carrier who would give you a challenge. The long-term future of UA's offering is in some question and you have an excellent opportunity to protect the quality of your future (2012) flying by obtaining high status on a back-up airline.

Based on UA's lack of comments and other signs, E+ is definitely in question. I like AA because they have approximately twice as many First Class seats. That means most 1K-like flyers end up sitting in first class and premium service in coach is irrelevant. I've decided to stick with UA for 2011, but I'm getting very close to a switch and the loss of E+ will be one trigger that will will cause me to switch.

What was at 75K

I just double checked and did not see anything for a 1K that hit 75K in 2010 -- as there was in 2009. There was just an award level at 125K. Did I miss something?

No. Elite Choice reverted to its original intent - promoting additional flying rather than rewarding lesser flying. AFAIK, nobody got awards at less than qualifying levels.

They never offered that. It was double or triple RDM.

Who cares if there is an elite plus program next year? It's been gutted so much it's virtually meaningless, as others above have already also pointed out.

I think the 1P giveaway at 175 EQMs was fantastic, and it definitely made me stretch some UA flying to get to it.
