2010 (earned in 2009) status: 1P from DEQS
2011 status: 1P (if all goes as planned)
2010 spend: $2,300
Did your status affect your spend: Absolutely. I used to be very price-conscious -- if DL's fare was $2 lower, I'd book it. But I made 1P on UA last year thanks to DEQS, got a taste of the good life, and now book *A even if it's a little bit more expensive or less convenient. I've also booked two MRs (during the wonderful sale a couple weeks ago) that will net 10 segments for $220 all in. I would not have booked those MRs if I didn't want to maintain status.

2011 projected status: Dirt
2010 spend: $800ish
Did your status affect your spend: (yes/no) It keeps me in *. E+ makes me less price sensitive, but I like to fly other airlines to see what they do and see new airports (the allure of my first layover at IAH, ahh). UDU does nothing for me.

Really, what is going to do my status in is my change in employment from employed with 15 to 20,000 miles of travel to self-employed and 5 to 10,000 miles of travel. I'll stick with United anyway since I choose fly out of ORD and never MDW, thought the dAArk side is always an option.

2010 (current) status: 1P lite (~27,000 bis)
2011 projected status: GM
2010 spend: $600
Did your status affect your spend: Yes. Without status I probably would have been flying VX or B6 for the few flights I've had this year.

Job change caused my travel to drop enough that it isn't worth pushing towards 2P. If there had been DEQM this year I probably would have done a MR to get 2P.

Did your status affect your spend: Yes...100% of my travel is MRs and personal travel...the free baggage, E+, and occassional UDU (happens more than people might think) make me not want to EVER go below 2P.

2010 (current) status: 1P slightly light
2011 projected status: 1P
2010 spend: $7,000
Did your status affect your spend: Yes. I've bounced around between 1P and 2P (mostly 1P) the last several years, depending on int'l travel. This year, I spent more on W fares to take advantage of gifted SWUs, and decided to purchase a Z fare to Europe in December rather than purchasing that TATL in Y and doing a domestic MR. Staying as high as possible on UDU list makes it even more important to me these days to remain at least 1P. However, if there had been a DEQM promo, I'd have been heading to 1K.

2010 spend: not sure
Did your status affect your spend: no

My flying was erratic this year, with almost all flying limited to a two weeks in each of May, Aug and now Nov/Dec. Will be lucky to make 1P, with only 2 TATL and no TPAC trips.

2010 (current) status: 1P (about 8k DEQM bonus)
2011 projected status: 1P (probably will need a MR of about 2000 EQM)
2010 spend: $10,593.91 (another $1200 or so expected)
Did your status affect your spend: No.

My travel is primarily based on work. The thing that affected my spend was unfortunate timing of work events. So far this year, I've had the following trips canceled: ORD-NRT-ICN (in paid J), ORD-LGA (x2), ORD-BOS, and ORD-EWR, ORD-CMH. I also had 30k EQM by April, and only 13k since.

2010 (current) status: 1K (But only flew around 50K BIS in 2009)
2011 projected status: 1K
2010 spend: Around $10K
Did your status affect your spend: Yes, in the sense that I haven't dropped 1K status for maybe the last 3-4 years and when I did, I regretted it. Bit easier for me given that all my UA travel is long-haul intl out of SIN and this year I made sure I had enough work "excuses" to come to the US.

2010 (current) status: 1P (about 32k with DEQM)
2011 projected status: 1P
2010 spend: Around $2.8k

Flying more and spending more this year... I am pretty good about getting close to the best price I can, except for SFO-IAD in August this year (ugh!). I like the 1P benefits so made a point of requalifying this year, despite no work trips. On the downside, I do a lot of SFO-IAD so no UDUs for me on that route. In Aug I was #4 and #7 on the gate waitlist, but a couple of weeks ago I was #21 and #25... 2P companion was around #40. Probably the relative difference was due to fare class. Looking forward to seeing if the UDU success goes up in the new year.

2010 (current) status: 1k (only about 60k actual miles flown in 2009, so I'm quite lite)
2011 projected status: 1k
2010 spend: $7,000
Did your status affect your spend: yes

My spending this year was split about evenly between job related and personal travel. Re-qualifying for 1k motivated a significant portion (maybe 2/3) of the personal spending.

I used to be 1K and am only 2P this year and will be next.

MP used to be a major incentive to me (took mileage runs, etc.) but now it is not. If UA wants to find out what I valuable program looks like, dial it back to about 1997 and readopt those rules.

Did your status affect your spend: (yes/no) No. I flew just over 100,000 last year, but reduced work travel this year means I'll end up with about 75,000. Not worth it for me to do a mileage run or two. So I will obediently take my place in the back next year. I sure will miss the SWU's and the ability to cancel/change award reservations.

2010 (current) status: 1K
2011 projected status: 1K
2010 spend: $6,026.55
Did your status affect your spend: (yes/no) No, though I did spend $850.06 more in 2010 than I did in 2009. I also will end with 39,030 fewer EQMs in 2010 than in 2009; in 2009 I had 86,601 BIS and in 2010 it is 101,130 BIS.

I do know that I'm likely dropping down to 1P for 2012 as I'm currently making my 2012 travel schedule.

2010 (current) status: 1K (started the year as 1P)
2011 projected status: 1K
2010 spend: ~$37K to date on *A, with still a few more trips planned this year
Did your status affect your spend: (yes/no) Yes, went out of my way to ensure I was on UA metal to attempt upgrades from economy. If UA metal wasn't available, did my utmost to remain on *A metal. Only used OWA airlines as a last resort, though I'm debating one TATL trip in order to retain AA Gold status.

2010 spend: around $5,000 (net about $3500 after vouchers and choices--yes, I use Choices--it helped turn a couple of $800 r/t tickets to Europe into $500 r/t tickets).
Did your status affect your spend: Yes. This year work cut back on travel pretty significantly so I think that I spent a bit on trips that were essentially glorified mileage runs. Then again, if miles were out of the picture I probably would have spent another $3000 on trips that were quasi-business trips to Europe. So I guess it's a wash.
