upgrade using miles question

im not sure if this has been discussed here...i searched around, looked at ual.com, couldnt find specifics.
is it possible to use my miles to upgrade a ticket for someone else? my sister is visiting me in about a month, and on her way home she is flying alone for the first time. i want to upgrade her to F so that she can be taken care of and relax, and end her trip in style and comfort. obviously, since she is returning home, i will not be on the flight with her. is this allowable?

Yes, you are allowed to upgrade others not flying with you, using miles from your account. What you would need to do is call up UA Reservations and give the agent the itinerary info for your sister, and your own MP information. Since you are not flying with her, you would need to visit an airport ticket counter and authorize the use of your miles for her trip by signing an auditor's coupon.

Furthermore, to use upgrades, follow the following rules:

thanks. i read that page on ual.com and didnt see anything specifically about this, so i thought i would come here where people actually know the answers to these things.

is there a time frame on when that "permission slip" has to be signed? im actually leaving for denver the same time she is leaving for home, so could i just go to the counter when we check in and do it then?
