Award Travel in C/J class on UA or QF to OZ
I am looking to use miles from US and have a choice of UA vs. QF. Should go on QF or UA have not flown neither one. I know there is a difference of 15000 miles between the two. Are the extra miles worth it to give to go on QF. Second we are not set on the dates, so we are flexible to get the award seating when available. Please advise to the best time to grab two seats in business class. pbi-lax-syd. Thanks for the help and love this website.

I hate to say this, but if you can afford the miles, it may well be better to try the QF option since their LAX-SYD flights *should* mostly have their new J (skybed) product installed, which is likely better than the UA seat as it promises a bed-seat rather than UA's C seats. However you might find that availability is more difficult on QF since they don't usually offer a lot of capacity for award seats on such a route. However, good luck!

I took an award trip to Oz on QF in December. You can see a trip report of it here:

I would definitely recommend QF for the service quality. UA wins for the seats... for now. As RichardMEL has pointed out, QF will be installing the Skybed which will change that category...but will also reduce the number of biz seats per aircraft making availability all the more difficult.
